School Days

Gardens High is a well-funded High School that services grades nine through twelve. It boasts excellence in education, Class-A sports teams, progressive arts programs, and a myriad of clubs that cover a wide range of interests. School uniforms are required to be worn on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and during class trips.

Type: Alternate Universe
Setting: Modern day, but still Vana'diel – all races still apply
Objective: Offer students or staff members based off of your characters for use. Then pick from the list of offered characters to create a short story of their interactions.

–––––––––––––
Rules:

– Use the character sheet below to repurpose your characters into students or staff. NOTE: When you offer characters, you understand that and agree that you will not be able to control the situation/interaction they may be involved in.

– When using others' characters, try to keep the personality type in mind. NOTE: If you want to involve another's character in something that would be a break of character, it is POLITE to ask permission first, and you understand and agree that any repercussions of major breaks of character are your own responsibility.

– Offering characters does NOT require you to do a story.

– You can make a club or class for any subject, PROVIDED that it does not revolve around activities that would be considered illegal for high school students (keep it PG-13, folks).

– While the setting is Modern Day, Vana'diel races, terms, magic, etc., can all be used.

– All story entries should be at least a three-minute read, and revolve around school life: before, during, after, hanging out directly after school with friends, and tutoring/study sessions.

Because our real-life school experiences all varied, the 'style' of school this is will be very fluid. Nothing is truly set in stone, however I think a couple of us may be envisioning something closer to a Japanese-style school – after some discussion, we will be doing a more Japanese style setup. Meaning that students stay in the same room most of the day and its the teachers that change, minus classes that require special spaces/equiptment (computers, some science classes, arts, etc.).

– When offering characters, please post them as a reply to THIS thread.

– When posting stories, please create a thread to put all your stories on so that I can index easily. EDIT: see my thread for an example of how to format your threads.

–––––––––––––

Prizes:
– For offering a character or submitting a story, a prize worth between 30-50k will be offered. Additional characters or stories will receive prizes worth approximately 5-10k each.
Note: Prize worth is estimated on AH prices taken today (10/12/2012)
– A grand prize of 100k will be awarded at the end of the quarter (April 1). The prize will be awarded based on quality/quantity of stories submitted.

– April 1st is the end of the contest. Characters and stories can continue to be offered and written, however no prizes will be awarded for entries after April 1st.

When the hero enters to kill me, I will ask him to first explain to my grandchild why it is necessary to kill her beloved grandma. When the hero launches into an explanation of morality way over her head, that will be her cue to pull the lever and send him into the pit of crocodiles. After all, small children like crocodiles almost as much as Evil Overlords and it's important to spend quality time with the grandkids.

Name: Ms. Sant
Type: Faculty
Grade/Position: School nurse
Age:33
Race: Hume
General appearance: Average height and build, slightly round face, pair of birthmarks under her left eye, dark brown hair cut in a shoulder-length wedge, dark brown eyes. Clothing style is sleek-professional-work.
Interests: Oversees the 'Herbalist Club', occasionally works with the 'Red Mage Club'.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Extremely patient, but has a short fuse; while she can put up with others' foolishness and stupidity for a long time, once she's hit the end it's a very quick trip from 'irritated' to 'full-blown rage'.
Personality: Fairly calm and even-tempered, not above teasing her patents into doing what she wants/needs them to do. Takes a very hands-on approach with her clubs.
Brief history: Unmarried, started working at Gardens' six years ago.
Additional Info: Has two siblings in the school: Mr. Sant (arts/music teacher) and Sophia Sant (student, tenth grade)

–––––

Name: Mr. Sant
Type: Faculty
Grade/Position: Music teacher, counselor
Age:38
Race: Hume
General appearance: Average height and build, slightly round face, pair of birthmarks under his eye, dark brown hair left to grow long and pulled into loose braid, dark brown eyes. Clothing style is casual-work.
Interests: Oversees the 'Photography Club'.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Slightly absent-minded. Not uncommon that he is late to his own club meetings.
Personality: A little enigmatic, sometimes a little distant.
Brief history: Married. Started working at Gardens' three years ago.
Additional Info: Has two siblings in the school: Ms. Sant (school nurse) and Sophia Sant (student, tenth grade)

–––––

Name: Sophia Sant
Type: Student
Grade/Position: Tenth grade/Freshman

General appearance: Average height, extremely muscular build. Dark brown hair that falls shoulder-length and often has a messy part, dark brown eyes. Clothing style tends to be a weird mix between sport/athletic and punk-rock.
Interests: Member of the 'Cooking Club' and football team. Best class is Geography, spends free periods in gym/weight-room. Could possibly be persuaded to join track or volleyball team.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Has an excellent memory. Distant/aloof to many people.
Personality: A/B-grade student. Likes to people-watch, can be persuaded to give decent advice. Oddly, though, she doesn't often connect with fellow classmates, and can be oblivious to 'advances' being made towards her.
Brief history: Went to live with older sister after parents died.
Additional Info: Because of district regulations prohibiting co-ed sports teams, is using a fake 'charter student' using the name 'Draenen Wen' to play on the football team.

Name: Kenjii Asgard
Type: Student
Grade/Position: Tenth/Freshman
Gender: Male
Age:16
Race: Hume
General appearance: Slightly shorter than the other boys, average built for his size, has a japanese ideogram tattoo reading 'Hairyuu" (it means 'ash dragon') on his right shoulder blade, dark brown hair cut at the base of his neck with two bangs on the sides of the face, blue eyes. Refuses to wear the school uniform and is often scolded because of this, prefers to wear jeans and sleeveless shirts.
Interests: Member of the kendo club. Aside his behavior, he's popular for showing a certain talent during the Art classes for drawing elaborated vehicle engines and design. He often skips classes of subjects he despises or claims to despise, such as Music and Theater.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Physically strong, with a powerful kendo style. He has secret agoraphobia which he does his best to hide by keeping himself away from the others out of classes.
Personality: Kenjii is a sullen boy of few words. He is well-known as a delinquent and the 'leader' of the bullies in his class. Despite his troublemaking ways, he is smart and gets good grades from most of his teachers. Although capable of cruelty, Kenjii has his own code of honor: even the teacher who he terrorizes will admit that Kenjii will never lie, and Kenjii refuses to pretend to be nice to anyone he doesn't like or respect. In the odd cases he finds something or someone he likes, he can get very jealous and almost possessive. Also, he never openly says he likes them, and will instead use the words "I don't mind it/him/her."
Brief history: Kenjii's mother died when giving birth to him and his father had left her long before that, which leads to his older brother Zenji taking care of him, frequently scolding him in a father-like manner and causing fights between him and Kenjii, often times such scenes end up with Kenjii running away from home and spend the whole night outside, having dinner in random cheap fast-food restaurants and sleeping during classes.
Additional Info: He constantly and always ditches music classes, claiming that he has absolutely no interest in the subject. However, some have seen him spending his time outside the window of the music room during the after-school practice hours.

Name: Roy Mustang
Type: Student
Grade/Position: Twelfth/Senior
Gender: Male
Age:18
Race: Hume
General appearance: Average height and build, slightly almond-shaped black eyes, black short hair with a thick fringe. Always wears uniforms except when out of school.
Interests: Member and candidate to captain of the basketball club.
Strengths/Weaknesses: He does not give up at anything, also has an innate and keen sense of leadership. His intelligence is above average, allowing him to excel at most of classes. Roy is also able to learn from every experience, encounter, and every win and loss he receives. This seem to not allow him to brood/live in the past, which keeps him focused on his goals for the future. Some may say he is nothing short of a visionary (and an idealistic as well). Ironically, Roy has an inner self-loathing habit. A procrastinator with homework, always leaving to the last minute.
Personality: Ambitious, and a rather complicated boy. Roy chooses who he wants to be known by, and how he wants to be known. Roy is an extremely polite person and treats people with the most respect, regardless of age, sex or race. How well he knows a person is also irrelevant. Despite his polite etiquette, he tends not to be straightforward. He cares deeply for those his is close to: he is candid and warm with the people he cares about, and never hesitates to offer his help if a situation calls for it.. Sometimes he'll lie to them, but never out of malice, but, because he considers it best for them emotionally. He projects confidence openly, and does so knowing his limits of ability, skill and experience. To the eyes of those who don't know him much however, he may appear arrogant, and this misunderstanding may sometimes put him into trouble with his classmates.
Brief history: Third son and only male of a modest family. His career ambition is to join the military and help his country.
Additional Info: He has a fame for having been seen dating many a girl, but oddly enough doesn't have a bad reputation amongst them. The reasons why he seems to change his date so often is unknown.

–––––

Name: Ms. Croisseraux (Kjara)
Type: Faculty
Grade/Position: History Teacher
Gender: Female
Age: 35
Race: Elvaan
General appearance: Average height and build. Red wavy hair of a short length, amber eyes. Pretty formal clothing style, usually something with a pencil skirt and loafers.
Interests: Seems to always have a notion for anything, which allows her to give the idea of having many a interest, however she doesn't seem to take part to anything out of her job. Rumors say she was asked to form and oversee a 'Dragoon Club', which has been shutdown for lack of a teacher for many years now.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Good memory, and a rather persuasive behavior. She is strict, but not mean. However, she has quite the sharp tongue when it comes to criticizing, often amusing herself with ironic comments.
Personality: Suave, and sort of enigmatic. One can hardly tell whether she likes who or what she's talking about or not. She is also curious, and a fast learner when it comes to someone's secrets.
Brief history: She is a new entry in the school staff, replacing the previous History teacher who retired the previous year. She also moved to this city for the job, but seems to not want to talk much about where she lived before then.
Additional Info: She has a pet wyvern called Azure.

Name: Ms. Grim
Type: Teacher
Grade/Position: Gym Teacher
Age:38
General appearance: Wearing a school colored track suit and a hockey mask that manages to conceal her features, Ms. Grim carries an air of unease about her. She is a
tall and fit, and carries a kendo stick throughout the day.
Interests: Has been pushing for both a Kendo and an Archery team.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Respected by students and faculty alike. Appears to stay calm and cool at all times.
Personality:
Strict but fair, Ms. Grim is an instructor that expects 100% out of all of her students. She is strict, but fair. While she makes many of her students and colleagues nervous simply by being near them, she is very protective of her students. Some even come to her asking
for advice, to which they are often given cryptic messages or answers.
Brief history: Ms. Grim has been at the school for approximately ten years, and remains unmarried. (To our knowledge, at least)
Additional Info: Ms. Grim has multiple urban legends circulate about her. Some involving cutting down students with her kendo stick for cutting corners on the track, and
others about her stalking the school grounds at night….

Name: Mr. Farenheights
Type: Teacher
Grade/Position: Drama and Theater
Age: 40
General appearance: A scrawny man with shaggy red hair, Mr. Farenheights tends to be easily recognizable due to his frequently rotating wardrobe. He appears to wear costumes to work instead of actual clothes. One day he may arrive in tie-dye, the next in a formal blouse and jacket.
Interests: Runs the Drama club, and has unsuccessfully pushed for a Dance Club.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Good actor and dancer, Has a difficult time staying on track with lesson plans.
Personality: Mr. Farenheights is that oddball teacher everyone remembers from High School. Constantly smiling, he has a relatively easy time getting along with both his students and co-workers.
Brief history: He has been teaching for nearly 20 years, Though unmarried, he appears to have a long running infatuation with the Biology Teacher, Dr. Kori.
Additional Info: Generally his classes begin with a month of teaching his students to dance. He finds that it removes some of the awkwardness/stage fright that newer theater students tend to encounter, as well as teaching them something that might be useful in life.

Name: Dr. Kori
Type: Teacher
Grade/Position: Biology/Chemistry teacher
Age: 42
General appearance: A pair of spectacles, a labcoat, and a black pony tail that falls over her shoulder. She is a frail looking woman, with a very unsettling grin etched into her face.
Interests: Dissections.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Very knowledgeable about her field, possibly one of the best. Very impersonal with students, not well liked by most.
Personality: There are people who are married to science, then there are people like Dr. Kori who don't even see it as a separate entity from themselves. She is completely dedicated to her profession, instead of her students.
Brief history: Dr. Kori has written several books on both Biology and chemistry, and for awhile was considered a leading authority in both subjects. Unfortunately, she was stripped of her title and job at the University following an incident that has been kept under wraps by her previous employers.
Additional Info: Tends to lock herself into the Biology lab after hours, she claims to be preparing the student labs for the next lesson.

Name: Ms Sakimoto
Type: Faculty
Grade/Position: Counselor/Advisor of the Cooking Club
Age: 26
General appearance: Short red hair in a pixie cut with bright green eyes.
Interests: Cooking, Dancing
Strengths/Weaknesses: She's very caring and bright, making her good as a counselor. However, in comparison to the other faculty and staff, she has less experience.
Personality: Bright, cheerful and caring. She can however, modulate the amount of energy she puts out, making herself more approachable by the calmer and shyer students.
Brief history: Fresh out of graduate school with a PhD in Psychology, Saerun recently joined the staff as a counselor, and looking to lead the cooking club. Baking was a fun past time, and admittedly, the only way she stayed sane through grad school.
Additional Info: She is the kind of counselor that would gladly chaperone any event, and attend events of the students if invited. She's constantly found wandering through the halls between periods, chatting with any students who seem like they want to talk. She also tries to talk to Sobe, trying to get her to open up more.

Name: Sobe Sakimoto
Type: Student
Grade/Position: 12th - Senior
Age: 19
General appearance: Blue eyes, with long red hair, pulled back into a braid.
Interests: Martial Arts, Art, a part of the Kendo and Photography clubs
Strengths/Weaknesses: She's strong physically, and has a good eye for photography. However, she is brash and comes off as overly harsh at times.
Personality: Sobe is a loner, preferring not to talk to people. When forced to, she can be overly harsh, though most of the things that she says are truthful, just blunt.
Brief history: She was forced to stay back a year in her junior year, thanks to get into a fist fight with another student. She tends to dislike her older step-sister thanks to constantly hearing about how smart and successful that she is.
Additional Info: She's the step-sister of Saerun.

Name: Mr. Renford
Type: Faculty
Grade/Position: Librarian
Age: 50
Race: Hume
General appearance: Older man of medium build and average weight, with grey-streaked strawberry blond hair and washed out blue-grey eyes. Walks with help of a cane topped with a water stone, dresses professionally.
Interests: Oversees the Red Mage club
Strengths/Weaknesses:Can almost instantly get his hands on any book in the library, physically frail.
Personality: Somewhat of a recluse, comes off as a bit of a creeper: Has a habit 'appearing out of thin air' behind people. Only time he is ever observed outside the library is during Red Mage club.
Brief history: Unmarried, began working in Gardens' approximately twenty years ago. Although a frail librarian these days, anyone who joins the Red Mage club gets regaled with tales of his youth as a charming, wandering jack-of-all-trades and fencer.
Additional Info: Often referred to by students (and some teachers) as 'The Library Elemental'.

––––––

Name: Nyiia and Niiya Suikiki
Type: Students
Grade/Position: Eleventh
Age: 17
Race: Tarutaru
General appearance: Tarutaru twins, nearly identical despite being different genders. Blond hair, blue eyes, typical chubby Tarutaru build. Only way to tell them apart is that Nyiia has a very minor hint of a chest and wears her hair in pigtails, while Niiya tends to style his in a topknot.
Interests: Best class is Biology. Kendo club for Niiya, Cooking club for Nyiia. Nyiia would join the volleyball team if she were taller…
Strengths/Weaknesses: Very reliant on each other to function; too long apart, and they begin to become unstable. Average student grades.
Personality: Generally friendly and cheerful, however they do seem to be a case of 'a single person split into two bodies' – Nyiia is extremely excitable and a bit of a flake, while Nyiia is much more reserved and intelligent – and will often start to seamlessly start and finish each others' statements.
Brief history: Rather ordinary upbringing, nothing of true interest in their past.
Additional Info: Not above switching places with each other.

Name: Shion Kyokuto
Type: Student
Grade/Position: Ninth
Gender: Male
Age:14
Race: Elvaan
General appearance: Of average built and height, with big golden eyes and spiky red hair on a short cut. Whatever he wears looks kind of messed up as if he dressed up in a rush.
Interests: It's his very first day in the Gardens, and he plans to sign up to the Cooking Club (he's quite a goof at cooking, he just wants to do it to try and eat some extra food). He's also looking forward martial arts or a kickboxing club if there is any.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Physically strong and with a carefree, easygoing behavior that seems to help him befriend everyone easily. However, he isn't too bright and tends to be terribly naive, which gets him to be prey of bullies easily. If someone else is in trouble though, he'll always step up to help thanks to his courage… or recklessness?
Personality: Easygoing, cheerful, optimist, with a great sense of justice but not much intellect to make any good use of it without others' help. Shion is a Paragon of Brat Excellence, ready to snoop into anyone's business and be your best friend, whether you want it or not. He tries hard, but seems to not be that great at any kind of faculty.
Brief history: Shion is a foreign student coming from Aht Urhgan for a cultural exchange. He lives in the school's dorm, and this is his first experience of life without his family. He's already feeling lonely and knows he has to do something to change this!
Additional Info: He has an extraordinary appetite.

–––––

Name: Kage Chikan
Type: Student
Grade/Position: Twelfth/Senior
Gender: Male
Age:17
Race: Elvaan
General appearance: Average height and build, long wavy black hair that he keeps in place with a red headband, and golden eyes. He wears the school uniform, but 'modified' it without any permission, taking off the sleeves and turning the upper part in a gilet. The uniform trousers are worn rolled up to the calf.
Interests: He is too lazy to join any club. His only interest is watching girls, and flirt with them when there's a chance.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Pretty easygoing and altruist, but horribly reckless and easy to engage into a fight. He doesn't seem to care about the rules at all, but at the same time won't stand still of some injustice happens in front of him.
Personality: A professional pervert, Kage's only interest seem to lie around women, videogames and his beloved skateboard. When he isn't busy chasing a girl, one can usually find him at the local arcade. His parents don't know yet, but he started to smoke this year.
Brief history: Only son of his family, average standing. No one will hear him complain about his parents, which seems to imply they aren't trying to tame his wild behavior.
–––––

Name: Hikari Shurui
Type: Student
Grade/Position: Eleventh/Junior
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Race: Hume
General appearance: A frail built, average height. Blond spiky hair which he seems to be trying hard to tame in a professional hairstyle with little success, and green bright eyes that he keeps behind a never-missing pair of eyeglasses. Whether it's a uniform day or not, his look is always impeccable.
Interests: He spends all his free time in the library, occasionally helping younger (and older) students study. With much to people's shock, he's signed up to all the Clubs, doing the best he can to attend to every meeting, even those that run at the same hour. However, in physical activities, he usually prefers to take a back line role like the referee.
Strengths/Weaknesses: An amazing memory and intellect and a pure, kind heart. Sometimes too kind, making him an easy prey to bullies and the like. He doesn't seem to rely on any sort of physical strength.
Personality: Suave, level-headed, mild and polite, he rarely displays anger, but when he does everyone seems to be afraid of him.
Brief history: Hikari is one of the Gardens' best students, and his dream is to one day be one of its teachers.

IMPORTANT:

The following changes have been made:

Because our real-life school experiences all varied, the 'style' of school this is will be very fluid. Nothing is truly set in stone, however I think a couple of us may be envisioning something closer to a Japanese-style school – after some discussion, we will be doing a more Japanese style setup. Meaning that students stay in the same room most of the day and its the teachers that change, minus classes that require special spaces/equiptment (computers, some science classes, arts, etc.)

– When posting stories, please create a thread to put all your stories on so that I can index easily. EDIT: see my thread for an example of how to format your threads.

Also, Race has been added to profiles.
