Last night we discussed possible names for the Adventuring Company, however we all felt that the list we came up with wasn't exhaustive and we didn't want to decide on a name quite yet without everyone present.

We will be having several rounds of polls to determine the group favorite, and I would like a more exhaustive list. Here are 'favorites' from the RP.

Symphonia
Advent
Company of the Stone
Crystallum

Any others you can think of, feel free to post them here, but try to be picky of your posts a bit… remember, the more options we have to pick from the longer it will take to sift through them all.

Honestly, none are really jumping out at me… EXCEPT for a variation of Company of the Stone "Firmao de la Ŝtono", which is a take on the game's opening song.

I'm not really drawn to any of those names.. but I couldn't make it last night to know what came about anyways x.x Was there any reason for picking/suggesting a name?

Kaolla sugested "Company of the Stone" because she had the following legend on her mind.

It all began with a stone, Or so the legend says. In ages past, a sentient jewel, enormous and beautiful banished the darkness. Its many-colored light filled the world with life and brought forth mighty Gods. Bathed in that light, the world entered an age of bliss. Until, after a time, the Gods fell into slumber. That world was called: Vana'diel.

Because this is said during the opening CS on the install disk these lines have to be common knowledge IC. Think of them as the Vana 'diel equivalent of the 1st lines in the Bible. Not everyone may know them but everyone knows of them unless they've been living under a rock. Ya know In the beginning bla bla let there be light etc.

On a first moment all I can think of is Centurio (FFXII reference, mentioned many times when talking about this 'agency'), if not that I'd like something more realistic than the other names that were suggested. something that would give the common people an idea of what we do, or at least something that sounded more professional to lure clients. Something with he words "force" or "team" or the like in it. those mentioned names honestly sound too much like music bands rather than an actual group of adventurers looking for quests.
To be an interesting, intriguing, well-written character, there needs to be something to allow the audience to relate to them. That is what the problem is with who wants their character to be "perfect". Perfect characters will never be strong, and strong characters will never be perfect, because WE (those who read, who watch, who RP) are not perfect.

"What makes a strong character is how they deal with their flaws, their fears, their turmoils, their troubles that get in the way. That's what makes them relatable." – Doug Walker

… This is a good point – something that sounds professional would be a good idea. Using "Force", "Guard", "Corps", "Division", "Alliance", "Order", "Team", and "Company", within proper context, would be good places to start for a more… military-esque overtone. A more business theme has room for a bit more creativity, but should still plainly carry the basic idea.

… If we were based/funded/backed by a nation, I'd personally have a little more to work with when it comes to suggesting names.

An example being the organization Kirious works in, "Scorpio Corps." That organization in particular even has ranks based on a combination of Military and Navy. (With Kirious being a Lieutenant Captain)

LT Capt? It hurts my eyes D: j/k

I agree here on the more businessey/official naming scheme.

'Brigade' is a good word or 'society.' We can have an acronym!
Example, random and sorta unrelated: ASK - Adventuring Society of Kazham

I wouldn’t go too corporate and I certainly wouldn’t suggest making it feel too much like a military organization. I believe the group should feel more like a league or a sorority or a lodge or something. Have a name that fits that idea. Remember we’re a very diverse group some have a martial background but others have a more scholarly history.

Think about real world groups like the shiners or the masons, while we won’t be nearly that size I think a more jack of all groups feel almost like a mix between the Salaheem's Sentinels and a mini Tenshodo. Add in a pinch of Windurst’s magic school etc. and that could probably cover most of what the group would do.

If we’re going to RP being a group of problem solvers we can do a lot with it. We can even make it so that some of the problems we are asked to solve aren’t obviously fixable. Nothing wrong with a “need to kill this” quest, but it could also be fun to do some RP where the problem needs to be researched and detective work needs to be done before we head out to find the magic item or kill the mob behind the problem.

By all means, I fully expect our roleplayers to take on things that may not be able to be solved. And just because something gets posted to the company board, doesn't mean it doesn't mean it needs to get investigated. Part of what I hope will make this fun is having a surge of opportunities for the characters to investigate, but they may need to make choices… some requests may be time sensitive, some may be able to be delayed.

Once again, the company board is going to be coming from all the roleplayers; it is not something that I alone will be posting to. Feel free to post as NPCs (within reason… don't take it too far) or better yet, characters you've created. Invent your own quests and design your own scenarios that you want to send to the group. The "kill this monster" scenario is really just an easy example… you can use the board to, in a way, steer the RP towards doing more activites that you might enjoy.
