To be an interesting, intriguing, well-written character, there needs to be something to allow the audience to relate to them. That is what the problem is with who wants their character to be "perfect". Perfect characters will never be strong, and strong characters will never be perfect, because WE (those who read, who watch, who RP) are not perfect.

APPEARANCE

Height: Shorter than average.

Weight: In shape, somewhat muscular.

Complexion: Average skin color for a Hume.

Hair: Dark chestnut, cut at the neck-base. He keeps his fringe apart in two bangs framing his face.

Eyes: Of a strong, vivacious blue shade.

Particular Traits:
- He has a big scar straddling his right shoulder, received from the bite of the Ash Dragon.
- He has a tattooed Mark of Zahak on the back of his neck, though his hair normally keep it hidden out of sight to the others.

Voice: Smooth, quiet and only slightly deep. (Click here for a sample)

Clothing Style: Kenjii has recently abandoned Far Eastern clothes to avoid hatred from the people of Aht Urhgan. He also decided to avoid chainmail, in favor of something lighter that would enable him to train better, as well as not sweat too much in the Near Eastern hotter summer. As of now he prefers to wear leather, or robes made of light cloth.

Laterality: Right-handed.

PERSONALITY

Kenjii is a loner Tenshodo samurai, seemingly cold and unemotional when you first meet him. In many ways, he's the 'anti-hero' of the story, not attracted by what the group is usually doing or going to do, and focusing most on the needs of the day. After spending several years with Avina and the Siren's Sword, but mostly importantly after the events that occurred in the Far East, Kenjii has developed a deeper care for his group, and the Greater Good (saving the world or a country for no gain). He wonders more often about the conditions of his friends who live far away and will notice more easily when someone has been missing for a long time, provided that it's someone that he's in good terms with. He however is still touchy on the topic, and prefers to pretend he doesn't care about anyone, stubbornly denying any 'good feelings' that he somehow sees as something that will make him appear weaker.

He's practical, to a fault, and seems almost mercenarial in his behavior. His coldness is due to his lack of attachments to others, and lack of life in a family. However, he has made some few friends throughout the adventure, and although refusing any unnecessary contact or good time together, he'll be the first to intervene if he feels they are in danger, with no questions asked. This doesn't mean he won't complain about it though.

Kenjii is cold; very cold. This lone wolf has always wanted to leave Bastok on his own and travel alone, drifting from place to place, but he never found the courage to start his adventure, or like he says, the chance to leave.

He cares little for people or for feelings, and fails to see the pleasures of being an Adventurer (seeing the world, meeting people, camping out in the wilderness in front of a roaring fire) other than the ones that can be sold for Gil. It takes quite a bit of pulling to get him on your team in the first place! The chances in which he'll tag along with no promised gain though have occurred more often now though, especially if Avina is in the group, or he is directly asked to.

He finally finds the excuse to leave when he gets scared to death by Ederick, Avina's father.. who thinks the young boy is dating his daughter. This event somewhat complicates developing feelings between the two, though Kenjii finds her most annoying throughout the story. After years, Kenjii finally gave up and accepted to acknowledge his feelings for Avina, and thanks to Dhemetra (his first girlfriend, that he had in the Far East), he opens himself to Avina. The two are now dating, and although the two keep bickering just as often as before, anyone can tell the deepest feeling that is behind their words.

As of now he is a lone wolf adventurer not used to accepting help or the company of others. He is cold-blooded and has the potential to do anything to get his way. Kenjii still isn't a party animal, and definitely doesn't like to dedicate himself to frivolities and good times with friends, but he is more aware of their presence around him, and actually seems to miss company when he finds himself alone. He also has considerably grown more tolerant to others' provocations, although still being the hot-head he is. In very rare occurrences also, he has shown actually caring about one's criticisms on him, and even though not openly admitting it, was hurt by their words.

Kenjii's portion of the story is to learn about his feelings, and reveal all the emotions he clustered inside himself. This will have place mostly in Aht Urghan missions, where he'll be costantly conflicted between the duty of a Blue Mage and the love he'll have built for Avina.

Towards the end of AU Kenjii will lose his memories and have a drastic change of personality, this amnesia will be faced during Wings of the Goddess and the way he'll recover his memory is still unknown.

4.1 Quirks
- When he was a child, he used to dream about becoming an airship pilot;
- Until not too long ago, Kenjii had a shocking fear for Mithran tails, as they reminded him of a snake that bit him when he was a child. This trauma was thankfully healed in the Far East, when he was forced to stay very close to a Mithra for several hours;
- He can't assimilate alcohol very well, getting drunk rather easily;
- Unconsciously tends to not use someone's name until the person somehow gains respect from him. Before that, he'll resort to nicknames, or not call them at all.
- He seems convinced that airships have their own spirit, and claims to be able to feel their emotions. (This is for humor, not god-moding.)

4.2 Flaws
- Undiplomatic;
- Overly literal;
- Socially inept;
- Emotionally constipated.

4.3 Fears
- Ederick Burkhardt;
- Snakes.

4.4 Talents
- He is always able to keep control during combat, never panicking;
- He's a quick learner, adapting to new conditions and jobs quickly;
- Very talented in the goldsmithing arts despite his young age.

4.5 Intelligence
Concerning serious times, Kenjii is stubborn and obtuse, but he's not stupid. He actually is quick-witted and smart, but often prefers action over thought. It's his impulsiveness and hard-head that often make him look dumb or anyways one of poor mind to the others.

During peaceful times or humorous scenes, Kenjii may show a slower brightness, often causing some to facepalm (Mirror in particular) with how literally he'll take instructions and advice. These scenes however shouldn't be taken into account when analyzing Kenjii's average intelligence. It's more the reflection of his ignorance in the field of social interactions and relationships.

4.6 Comparisons
Final Fantasy Characters: Squall Leonhart (FFVIII).
Other Game Characters: Jet Enduro (Wild Arms 3).
Anime Characters: Sasuke Uchiha (Naruto).

4.7 TV Tropes
- Tsundere (Type A)
- Anti-Hero
- Jerkass
- Grumpy Bear
- Commander Contrarian
- Moral Myopia
- It's All About me
- Jerk Justifications (Type 1)

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

5.1 Jobs and Trades
Samurai (6 years): Currently retired, as a dragon bit Kenjii's shoulder, making him unable to wield any heavy weapon for a very long time. Kenjii resumed his abandoned Ninja training to keep fighting while waiting for his shoulder to recover.
Ninja (7 years): Currently adopted to support his training as a Blue Mage. Of late Kenjii has felt the desire to try something heavier as weapons, and ultimately abandoned his katanas to use swords instead. He now combines swordmanship to ninjutsu techniques.
Blue Mage: Kenjii was chosen for the surgery that turns normal humans in Blue Mages by the leader of the Immortals, along with Avina. His seeming lack of mana disheartened the alchemists, who ultimately labeled him as a failure. Believing he'd not survive the surgery, the Empire tried to dispose of his body. However, Malay found Kenjii and used her special magic to help him accept the Azure within and survive, awakening his mana. Now fully conscious of his situation, Kenjii decided to use this new weapon against the Empire, and plots to join the Immortals to save Malay, as well as fulfill the job entrusted to him and the Siren's Sword by the leaders of the Middle Lands. While initially suffering his new condition, Kenjii's body quickly adapted to the Azure, and the man is now revealing a moderate talent for blue magic.

5.2 Personal
- Steady Reflexes (Resist Blind, Zanshin): Kenjii has good, trained eyes. This allows him to see incoming attacks and prepare to dodge or counter. Unfortunately, although he has good reflexes, his current conditions don't allow his body to be as fast as his eyesight is, so not all attacks will be dodges.
- Demon Hunter (Demon Killer): As a samurai, Kenjii prepared his mind and body to destroy demons, and hunting them down in his teen years in Castle Zvahl, he has developed a keen sense that allows him to detect them. He knows their weaknesses, and the demons are able to sense it. This will often instill intimidation in them when facing him.
- Light Step (Stealth): As a ninja, Kenjii improved his movements. Not wearing heavy armor allows him to walk around often unseen/unheard by the enemy (provided that Kenjii doesn't want to be detected. He doesn't bother as much about it in town), and blend into the shadows of night.
- Multiple Concentration (Dual Wield): Kenjii's training in the Far East allowed him to compensate his handicap (unable to use two-handed weapons) with the double-blades techniques. He can easily handle fighting with two weapons without losing focus. However, since when he changed from katanas to sword, his attacks have been slower.
- Battleground Awareness (Resist Bind): It took many years of experience in battle to get Kenjii to be aware of his surroundings as he fights. Being able to check the ground as he fights, he will be less likely to fall in traps that may bind him or slow him down.
- Sangfroid (Meditate, Store TP, Subtle Blow): Kenjii is able to keep control of the situation as he fights. To keep cold blood is essential, and controlling his adrenaline he knows when to strike with his best attacks, as well as how to strike the enemy at the right moment to prevent them to unleash devastating techniques at the most uncalled-for moments.

5.3 Weapons and Defense
- Hand-to-Hand: Average.
- Dagger: Better than average.
- Sword: Major.
- Polearm: Average Currently unable to wield.
- Katana: Superior.
- Great Katana: Superior Currently unable to wield.
- Club: Poor.
- Archery: Minor.
- Marksmanship: Minor.
- Throwing: Superior.
- Parrying: Better than average.
- Evasion: Major.

5.4 Magic
- Ninjutsu: Superior.

5.5 Crafting
Goldsmithing: Expert
Woodworking: Journeyman
Smithing: Craftsman
Clothcraft: Recruit
Leathercraft: Apprentice
Bonecraft: Apprentice
Alchemy: Novice

5.6 Merits
Magic Energy: Probably inherited from his father's family tree. Has been dormant up to this day, and has suddenly awakened after the Aydeewa accident.

Strength: Enhanced by the exhausting training Kenjii puts himself into everyday.

Sword Skill: Developed recently with his sword training as a ninja.
Katana Skill: Developed during the several years of training as a ninja.
Great Katana Skill: Even though he's unable to wield these great blades, Kenjii's knowledge on the great katana weapon hasn't faded.
Evasion Skill: Developed during the several years of training as a ninja.
Parrying Skill: Developed throughout the years of combat training Kenjii experienced in his life.

Singing: Inherited from his mother's family tree.

Impetus (Critical Hit Rate Up): Developed during the years as a samurai.
Concentration (Spell Interruption Rate Down): Developed during the years as a ninja.

(As Samurai only): Currently Unavailable
Cold Blood (Store TP, Meditate): Kenjii has trained further to maintain control and focus in battle to perform more devastating attacks.
Shikikoyo: A secret technique that allows Kenjii to instill steadiness and concentration in his allies.
Blade Bash: A secret technique that allows Kenjii to stagger his foe with a powerful strike with the side of the blade.
Ikishoten: A secret technique that allows Kenjii to better exploit an enemy's momentum as he anticipates its attacks.
Indomitable Spirit (Overwhelm): Facing an enemy will push Kenjii's motivation to its maximum limits, giving him courage and strength to perform more accurate attacks of great force.

FAMILY AND RELATIONSHIPS

DISCLAIMER

All what is written here bears absolutely no OOC feelings, and may be subject to change as the story develops. If your name doesn't appear in this list, I have probably forgotten, or Kenjii just doesn't remember you. Please do not use these information to affect you ICly or mess with Kenjii's feelings. Use of OOC information will be flagged as god-moding and I will not react to it ICly if I feel this is what you're doing.

6.1 Relatives
- Mathias Asgard: Show Spoiler
Father. Currently missing. Kenjii feels deep hatred for him, and blames him for his mother's death, as he believes in the many rumors in town about the knight running away from the battlefield in Xarcabard to save his life.

- Sephirya Idavoll: Show Spoiler
Mother. Deceased. Kenjii doesn't have many memories of her, outside of the songs she'd sing to him as an infant. He is very fond to her memory and loves her deeply. Her death has changed him forever, traumatizing him and giving him struggles on making friends.

- Zenji: Show Spoiler
Older brother. Currently missing. Kenjii hates him for abandoning him to go search for the truth on their father with Kjara. Before then, their relationship had always been good, as they were very close brothers always taking care of each other in their difficult times.

- Aaron S Idavoll: Show Spoiler
Sephirya's younger brother, and Kenjii's uncle. Currently missing. Kenjii ignores his existence up to this point.

6.2 Positive
- Avina Burkhardt: Show Spoiler
Kenjii's girlfriend. Even though things seem to not have changed much from the days Kenjii and Avina would only bicker around, when nobody is around Kenjii actually shows a more open and sweeter side of himself to Avina, seeing her as something to love and cherish. Kenjii is worried at how the Aydeewa accident seems to be troubling Avina, and feels more and more the pressure to protect her. This is revealing to be a double-edged sword, as not only it causes anxiety between the two (as Kenjii gets nervous to see Avina going around by herself), but it also is pushing Kenjii to train harder and harder, seeking a power that his body isn't able to handle yet.

- Ayuki Banjyaho: Show Spoiler
One of the Crystal War orphans, a childhood friend of Kenjii. She got a utter crash on him since the day he saved her life when they were but kids. Kenjii has never seen her aggressive side, and thinks of her as of a sweet, helpless girl in need of protection.

- Cire: Show Spoiler
One of Kenjii's former team mates in the Tenshodo, as well as an old training/sparring partner. Cire was always very talented in the Far Eastern arts, and for a good while Kenjii looked up at him, trying hard to reach his level. Kenjii's respect for Cire is shown by how often he brings up memories of him, even if often criticizing him.

- Dhemetra McRael: Show Spoiler
Kenjii's very first girlfriend, a girl from Ulbuka that he met in the Far East. Dhemetra forced Kenjii to face his true feelings, and convinced him to go back to the Middle Lands to clear up his heart by seeing Avina again.

- Draenen Wen/Sophia Sant: Show Spoiler
Due to his trauma, Kenjii has a lot of troubles when it comes to befriending, and women more than men. Draenen, after Ayuki, is probably the second female Kenjii won't deny to be friend with. Unlike Ayuki though, it was different reasons that led Kenjii and Draenen to become friends. Kenjii gives most of the credit to Draenen's built and attitude, that makes her much more similar to a male to his eyes than a girl. In fact, when Draenen changed because of her developing feelings for Roy, Kenjii started to struggle in recognizing her, and even now he is in the process of 'acceptance' of Draenen's feminine nature, making him feel very awkward when she assumes behaviors that he considers 'unnatural' to his own gender (or in other words, the gender he had unconsciously attributed to her so far), such as hugging people or showing a more caring and feminine nature. Ultimately, Draenen's biggest success over Kenjii is that she is the first female towards which he doesn't feel the urge to protect or keep away from the battlefield. Not because he doesn't care to help her (he will, whenever she seems in trouble), but because he doesn't see in her the weakness his mother's death made him attribute to any other female fighter.

- Hikari: Show Spoiler
One of Kenjii's friends in the Far East. Hikari is a very caring and nice man, often acting like a caretaker for the group, also thanks to his conjuring techniques and his natural behavior as a former teacher. Before Mirror, he was the only one able to suck up Kenjii's harshness with a smile and comfort him instead.

- Jesimae Kush: Show Spoiler
Former colleague, now in the musketeers.

- Kage: Show Spoiler
One of Kenjii's friends in the Far East. Kage was more of a bickering partner for Kenjii, but also got him out of several nasty situations. Between Shion being a kid and Hikari being too soft, Kage and Kenjii together often acted like the 'guardians' of the group.

- Lenina: Show Spoiler
One of Kenjii's childhood friends, another orphan of the Crystal War in Bastok. Kenjii has very few memories of her.

- Mirror: Show Spoiler
Probably the closest to a big brother Kenjii has (Mirror even defined himself as such). Mirror initially represented a threat to Kenjii, and the feeling seemed to be mutual. However, after an accident where Mirror saved Kenjii's life (from something Mirror himself had caused), a long sequence of 'returning favors' started, during which the bard and Kenjii unwillingly opened more and more to each other. Kenjii eventually played a big role for Mirror, helping him to reunite with his family, and often putting himself between Mirror and the Farseer's impositions (consequently gaining the latter's unwanted and hostile attentions, apparently). Kenjii kept helping the Sant family without any real promise of gain, and grown fond to them and their cause, probably developing a sense of familiarity for them, and treating them as a surrogate of the relatives he never had. This character, along with Avina and the adventure in the Far East, played a significant role in Kenjii's development into a more caring and less unfriendly person.

- Shion: Show Spoiler
This Elvaan kid was the key of Kenjii's deep change during his year in the Far East. Even now that they live in separate countries, Kenjii still wonders about him, and Shion's wish to end the war between the Near and Far East is what moved Kenjii to go to Aht Urhgan in the first place.

- Zeti-Reti: Show Spoiler
An old team mate from Kenjii's teen years under the Tenshodo's care. Cire, Zeti-Reti and Kenjii trained their Far Eastern arts together, each with his story and reasons to fight. After growing up, they all went into separate ways, but haven't forgotten each other. Zeti-Reti and Kenjii now work together again under the Siren's Sword banner (and under the more unfortunate Wildcat's badge), and this Tarutaru is still one of the fighters Kenjii respects the most.

6.3 Neutral
- Aderyn: Show Spoiler
Kenjii doesn't like to have kids around, and feels awkward when forced to deal with one, especially one that shows affection. But Aderyn is Mirror and Draenen's nephew, so in respect of their friendship, he does his best to keep a tolerant demeanor when Aderyn is nearby.

- Aurou: Show Spoiler
Kenjii is on the brink of completely forgetting about this person. He hasn't much about her to work on to either like or dislike her.

- Garonne/The Grimalkin: Show Spoiler
Kenjii is a little creeped out by this figure when in her Grimalkin attire, but at the same time respects her as a fellow Samurai. However, his racist distrust for Mithras still kicks in, so he feels more comfortable when she isn't around.

- Hakkaii: Show Spoiler
An immature kid trying to do things far greater than him only to please his family. Kenjii may not hate him, but there is a good amount of disgust and pity in there.

- Kaolla: Show Spoiler
Bubbly, naive, egocentric and way too loud. Kaolla has all the cards to get on Kenjii's nerves in a finger snap. What probably irritates him the most is how she keeps acting like half her age. However, at this point Kenjii has so gotten used to her pranks and ramblings, he has basically 'filtered her off', and tends to ignore her until she breaks his tolerance's limits.

- Korghan: Show Spoiler
Kenjii's caretaker before the Tenshodo, possibly reincarnated by now. Kenjii doesn't have many memories of him.

- Lotrulien: Show Spoiler
One of the few Elvaan that Kenjii doesn't hate. This is probably because, whether Kenjii wanted it or not, the cleric has taken care of him and his brother in the past. But, he is close to Kjara, and as such cannot fully gain Kenjii's trust.

- Malay Sant: Show Spoiler
Having participated in the long research for Malay to help Mirror and Draenen, Kenjii is satisfied to see her back, and would be the first to jump up to help her if she was in trouble. However, her awkward behavior, combined to her relationship with Envy and Kenjii's recent learning of her cannibal tendencies are making him feel uneasy about her, and although not hating, he prefers to keep a distance.

- Muriru: Show Spoiler
This character caused conflicting feelings in Kenjii. He cares for her as she is a female, often showing her weak side and need to be protected, which moves him inside. On the other hand, her constant smart aleck attitude when making jokes and comments about people far stronger than her, and her helpless inability to mature has often gotten on his nerves. Kenjii gave up on training Muriru when he realized she would never respect him nor his teachings. Even though the Tarutaru apologized, Kenjii realized that the only way Muriru would learn what discipline is would be to get beaten up for real, and that he something he can't get himself to do to a woman. While he did worry for a little while about her whereabouts (especially because of the accidents involving her grandmother), Kenjii has moved on now, distracted by more pressing matters. For this reason, Muriru's status on his impression has stabilized to 'neutral'.

- Peb: Show Spoiler
Kenjii feels adversity for older males, probably because of his hatred for his father. However, Peb hasn't ever really given reasons for Kenjii to fuel his dislike for his figure, and the neutral detachment the two keep between each other (as well as the couple times Peb has helped him or allowed Kenjii to stay in his house) is helping Kenjii to not feel any hostility towards the old sorcerer.

- Saerun: Show Spoiler
While Kenjii has started to get in friendly terms with Saerun, the whole accident with her involving Jericho has made him change his mind. Even though he stopped to judge her for her race, he now unconsciously blames her for turning Jericho into a worse person.

- Seraphaelle: Show Spoiler
It wasn't the character himself but Avina to forcefully push this character from Kenjii's 'negative circle' into the 'neutral circle'. As of now, Kenjii still distrusts Seraphaelle, and doesn't respect him, but is trying very hard to tolerate his presence in the group. He sees him as a nuisance, a newcomer that just isn't ready for what they're doing, much similar to how Kenjii still sees Hakkaii and how he once saw Shion.

- Snider: Show Spoiler
Kenjii doesn't like people who talk too much. And in these terms, Snider's quiet and reserved demeanor definitely puts him under a good light to Kenjii's eyes. This man has shown determination in how he fights, and the will to take a mission seriously. These are qualities that Kenjii approves in people, and respects. As long as Snider keeps moving on his own tracks without getting in Kenjii's way, Kenjii won't develop harsh feelings on him.

6.4 Negative
- Aedyn: Show Spoiler
Elvaan. Kenjii dislikes him, but there really isn't anything beyond the racism here.

- Burald/Monster: Show Spoiler
Probably the second living being Kenjii would want to see dead after Shadowfang. Burald forced Kenjii to experience a scene very similar to what he witnessed when his mother was slain before his eyes. Although Avina is trying hard to convince Kenjii to forgive Burald, Kenjii's hatred is fueled by something that goes far beyond his love for the girl. Although he now refrains himself from attacking the Galka when Avina is present, deep inside Kenjii knows to be only waiting for the right chance…

- Daltan: Show Spoiler
An Elvaan. A Paladin. A recidivous liar. Kenjii has given up any possible trust on Daltan, and thinks Avina should stop relying on him.

- Ederick Burkhardt: Show Spoiler
Pure. Terror. No one can really know what Kenjii sees when he looks at Ederick, but knowing that Kenjii is a demon hunter, we can only expect this old man to represent something much scarier than them.

- Envy/Kirious: Show Spoiler
Constantly fueled hatred here. Simply put, Kenjii and Kirious are not made to get along. Kirious has shown multiple times to be physically superior to Kenjii, and Envy's attitude combined to Kenjii's pride makes him hate to be forced to look up at Kirious. Kenjii is now almost obsessed by his figure, constantly comparing himself to him, trying to surpass him. Ironically, his envy for 'Envy' is what is pushing him the most towards a darker side of his mind, driving him into a never-ending thirst for power.

- Kaden: Show Spoiler
Kenjii has met this character only a couple times, when Aderyn was kidnapped and when Kenjii himself went to visit Kaden in the dungeons for interrogation. Kenjii is the type quick to judge, whether it's a wrong or right impression of the person, so these few experiences have already branded Kaden as a 'bad guy' to him.

- Karegan K Noctune: Show Spoiler
Another of the Siren's Sword 'male invaders'. He is older than Kenjii and also a paladin, giving him a very bad start to Kenjii's impression. We'll see what happens.

- Kjara: Show Spoiler
One of the people Kenjii hates the most. Kjara did not only take Kenjii's brother away from him, but she also manipulated him to gain personal information, and unburied the story behind his father, a topic that Kenjii didn't want to see discussed ever again. Kenjii grew up on the mourn for his mother and the hatred for his father, and the thought that she may somehow uncover a different truth that he one he believes in troubles him deeply. He doesn't want to face a different reality about his family, and can't forgive her for what she's doing, nor for pushing his brother in helping her cause. He is also concerned about her cursed wyvern, and thinks Azure should be suppressed before it's too late.

- Jericho: Show Spoiler
Jericho was, for a short time, what Kenjii had considered his best friend. Kenjii had looked up at Jericho, and secretly admired his maturity and strength, considering him a paragon. However, after the events of Chains of Promathia following Jericho's downfall, Kenjii was horrified and upset at seeing how Jericho had fallen to be a miserable person. Losing his figure as someone he wanted to become like, Kenjii turned his back at Jericho, and the two have up to that point grown distant.

- Jetiise: Show Spoiler
Elvaan knight. Two words that sum up what Kenjii knows of Jetiise, and both falling in his 'dislike' category.

- Jin-Sei-Ahhad: Show Spoiler
Similar in a few ways to the Farseer, Kenjii knows too little of this character, and his power and knowledge are threatening. More than anything, Kenjii can't forgive the man for the dangerous way in which he tried to 'train' Avina. Kenjii is determined to find out this man's identity and intentions, and won't hesitate to attack him if the chance occurred.

- Manari: Show Spoiler
Again, not much information about this character, and what little she has shown is plenty for Kenjii to not like her. A bubbly Mithra is something he has already seen in the group, and certainly not something he feels to be needed in his company.

- Obtili: Show Spoiler
Kenjii doesn't really bear any hate for Obtili outside of the discrimination as a Mithra, but he never liked to be ordered around as she often did (she even hit him in the head with her shield once). But she also is a paladin, which he doesn't like. The dominant feeling towards her however is intimidation. Obtili has often shown a very blatant attention for Kenjii, and the several occasions in which she has moved physical contact on him has creeped him out for good. Not just because she's old enough to be his mother, but because Kenjii is uneasy at receiving that kind of attention in general: he likes his personal space.

- Roy Mustang: Show Spoiler
Kenjii never liked windbags, and as of now that's all Roy is to him. Their conflicts probably started due to their jobs (Kenjii as a goldsmith, and Roy as a Gold Musketeer), but there is probably more than that. Roy's popularity amongst women, as well as his quick climb through the military ranks of the Republican Army put him into a very bad light for Kenjii: he sees Roy as someone who manages great, undeserved success with little to no effort. This is taken as a personal insult to Kenjii, who has had to work hard to live throughout his life. In a way, he and Roy are probably two faces of the same medal, and probably bound to oppose as such. Last but not least, Roy's carefree attitude and apparent immunity to Kenjii's harsh comments can only piss him off even more. The feeling has only gotten worse since when Roy has joined the Siren's Sword and started dating Draenen, a friend of Kenjii. Kenjii obviously sees this as an intrusion in his personal life, and Roy may not be entirely wrong when he says Kenjii suffers an 'alpha male syndrome'. In fact, Kenjii has been the only stable male around in the group for a long time, and also because of how he sees females as people needing to be protected and kept away from troubles, he dislikes to see more males getting around them, possibly stealing his 'role' in the community [OOC note: This is clearly all unconscious in Kenjii's mind.].

- The Farseer: Show Spoiler
The veil of mystery surrounding this character gives little for Kenjii to work on. He sees him as someone malicious and evil, manipulating Mirror like a puppet and often forcing him away from things the bard would want to do (such as looking for his sister or reuniting with his family). Kenjii has often put the spanner in the works of the Farseer, and considers him almost an enemy. At the same time, he is confused by the few times the Farseer has helped him and the others out, such as when Mirror had trapped them into a dream. Kenjii however cannot forgive the time the Farseer had openly tried to attack him in Bastok, and won't hesitate to pull out his weapons if he were to find himself alone with him. However, he probably would only defend himself, as attacking the Farseer would mean to go against Mirror's will, which Kenjii reluctantly respects. Also, the Farseer has revealed to know Kenjii's real name, and this fact only makes the Hume feel even more hatred, along with some fear towards the cloaked man. For a brief moment, Kenjii found himself wondering whether the Farseer could have known his father, if not being that person himself. However what few he could see of his appearance has driven him off of that thought.

To be an interesting, intriguing, well-written character, there needs to be something to allow the audience to relate to them. That is what the problem is with who wants their character to be "perfect". AFFILIATIONS

7.1 Allegiance to Bastok
Kenjii has been loyal to very few things belonging to his past, and his pledge to Bastok is one of them. Although this may have been more a matter of practicality (Ties with the Tenshodo, the Goldsmithing Guild, his mansion being there) and general distrust for any other viable option (San d'Oria had Elvaan and Windurst had Mithra), Kenjii has never abandoned the side of the Republic, despite often expressing his wish to live to start off his life as an avenger, and even today he'll rush back home if the President calls out his name. Kenjii's status as an adventurer of Bastok ranks him to 10, the maximum decoration an adventurer may aspire to, paragon of heroism, and equal to a Senior Gold Musketeer.

7.2 The Tenshodo
Kenjii joined the Tenshodo at the age of 12, when he was still a child. Although recognizing both Aldo and Gilgamesh as leaders, he is officially under the latter's banner. Even now from time to time, Kenjii goes back to Norg with the excuse of training or wanting information to check out on his former comrades and the organization's welfare. Kenjii is a freelance, and as such has no other 'boss' other than the organization leaders themselves. However, from time to time he is called to form small teams with other members of the Tenshodo to perform special tasks. When the time comes, it is usually his old mentor Ryoma to contact him and give him the orders.

7.3 The Goldsmiths' Guild
As an Asgard, Kenjii was bound to sign up to the Goldsmiths' Guild, even when pretending to be a distant Far Eastern cousin of his true self. His inherited talent in the arts of goldsmithing were immediately acknowledged by all in the guild room, and both Kenjii and his brother were quick to regain a popularity amongst merchant for their workpieces, and both climbed up amongst the Experts in a short time. As of now, Kenjii is making up for his lack of work as a mentor for new recruits by 'studying abroad' the Aht Urhgan techniques of refining natural brass.

7.4 The Siren's Sword
Kenjii wasn't very optimistic about Avina's idea to establish an Adventuring Company, and he made sure to let his opinion known from the very beginning. As always, his calls of protest were ignored, and not only he found himself within its ranks, but was even 'invested' with the vague and doubtful title of 'Volunteering Surveyor'. Kenjii never liked volunteering, and even now will often debate about the Siren's Sword poor income. Right now however, the Salaheem's Sentinels missions are keeping him far too busy to give him a chance to protest.

7.5 The Salaheem's Sentinels
Possibly the darkest chapter in Kenjii's curriculum as of now. Like the others, Kenjii was tricked into signing a contract by Naja Salaheem, and is now apparently bound to serve her for… well.. the rest of his life. While still determined to get his hands on that contract and rip it apart, Kenjii is aware of how his role as a mercenary could help him and the others in their currently secret mission of information gathering for the Middle Lands leaders, so for now the matter is postponed. If nothing else, at least gil seems to be rolling in.
… But damn, 'Private Second Class'? Really? That's so humiliating!

HISTORY

10.1 Name and Lifestyle

10.1.1 Name Etimology

Kenjii means 'Twice as Wise', and it was given to him by the Tenshodo pirates who took care of him during his childhood; probably an ironic reference to his stubborness and tendency to pick up fights with anyone.

Asgard* is the last name of the family Kenjii originates from. In Bastokan, it means 'home of the gods', and it probably originates from the legendary goldsmiths and knights that always shun in the family tree. The Asgard family always worked to protect Bastok, by either crafting armors and shields, or rising soldiers that would fight to defend the Republic. It is not a coincidence that their family crest displays a white bulwark on a blue background.

*Asgard
by Micha F. Lindemans
Asgard, in Norse mythology, is one of the nine worlds and the homeland of the Aesir, the race of warrior gods. Located on the highest level of the Norse universe, it is surrounded by a high wall of closely fitted stone blocks. The walls surrounding Asgard were built by Blast (or Hrimthurs), who asked in payment the hand of Freya plus the sun and the moon. Odin agreed providing the walls be complete in six months. Hrimthurs had a magic horse, named Svadilfari, who helped him in his work. To Odin's (and the other gods, especially Freya's) horror, with but a few days left, Blast was almost finished. Loki, the trickster, turned himself into a mare and beguiled the stallion Svadilfari away. The job was not completed in time and no payment was given.

Also found on this level are the worlds of Alfheim and Vanaheim as well as Valhalla, an immense hall where warriors slain in battle await the final conflict.

In the middle of Asgard lies the plain of Idavoll (or Ida) where the Aesir meet to decide important issues. There the gods assemble in the hall of Gladsheim and the goddesses in the hall of Vingolf. The gods also meet daily at the Well of Urd, beneath the Asgard root of the ash tree Yggdrasil.

10.2 Before Tales of Vana'diel
10.2.1 Birth and childhood (0-12)
Mathias Asgard was the middle son of the last generation of a popular family of Goldsmiths. The name Asgard had raised fame amongst the crafters for their specialization in making shining armor with enhanced defense against black magic, that would be used by the greater paladins of Bastokan history.

Talented in both the arts of Goldsmithing and fighting as a Paladin (trained by San d'Orian knights), he was a prestigious member of the army of Bastok, and along with his brothers he would serve in the war on the front lines, side by side with the Gold Musketeers.

859 C.E.

The Crystal War was just about to enrage when the young Sephirya Idavoll came to Bastok. An easygoing bard, coming from a family of Chocobo breeders, who had decided to go back to the homeland left by her grandparents to help the humes and galkas face the conflict, cheering them up with her songs and skilled windurstian cooking.

860 C.E.

Mathias Asgard was a strict man, very devoted to his country and focused on his duty. Many in Bastok were surprised to see such a cold and noble man marrying a simple farmgirl like Sephirya. She had managed to open his heart with her songs, what many other women had failed into.

862 C.E.

The war though kept the family often apart. Mathias was spending weeks in the battlefield, with bare chances to see her beloved. This is why Samuel and Janus were raised with almost no father figure.

863 C.E.

They had the young age of 6 (Samuel) and 3 (Janus) when the Operation Snowstorm had place in the Northlands. Mathias was called in arms by San d'Oria, and respecting the will of the nation who had trained him in the ways of swordmanship, he set forth, leaving Sephirya and his two children in the safety of Bastokan Walls.. or so he thought.

During the striving battles in the cold Northlands, swarms of Dark Kindred armies were sent to the Allied Nations of Altana, led by the Shadow generals. It was the demon Shadowfang who was in charge of slaying down Bastok. Enraged at the unexpected resistance of the republic to his Dark Void's magic, the dark general heard the cries of victory of the soldiers, praising the Asgard name for protecting them with their armors.

Such a treat to his Lord had to be vanquished. It would not be long before he would find the house of Mathias Asgard, and his family in the inside.

Sephirya did her best to hide her children and protect them. She was a bard, and had never unsheated the fleuret his husband had given her. After hiding the children in a wardrobe and telling them to stay quiet, she came out to face the general herself, sleeping his dark voids with her beautiful voice. Shadowfang was not susceptible to her songs though, and merciless slain her in front of her trembling children.

Amused at how easily he had managed to vanish all the makers of those terrible armors, he finally retired back to the Northlands to report to his Lord.

Samuel came out of his hiding, with Janus still holding his hand in disbelief. The six years old child cried and called their mother's name over and over, for hours, kneeling in front of her dead body.

When the Bastokers finally found the two last survivors of the Asgard family, Samuel's voice was gone and never returned.

864 C.E.

Janus and Samuel were alone now. With no news from their father in the Northlands even after Shadow Lord's defeat, they had no more relatives to refer to.

For a while they lived along in their big house, with nothing left but books of Goldsmithing teachings and their mother's memories. The little Janus was now his brother's voice, and took care of him as best as he could. They were assisted for most of the day by Korghan, a Galka who had decided to take care of the war orphans in Bastok. Thanks to him, they always had food and medical assistance at need, along with some friends of their age, like Lenina.

10.2.2 Teen Years (12-19)

872 C.E.

Janus had just turned 12 years old when a man from the Tenshodo found him and his brother and decided to bring them with him to Norg, and raise them as Tenshodo members. Of course, he was doing it just so he could get his hands on their many belongings, but the two brothers didn't care much and gave him all their money.

Afraid that this might put the Tenshodo under a worst light though, the man insisted that they would change their names, and then he spread the voice that Samuel and Janus Asgard died slain by the Quadavs.

873 C.E.

That was how Janus and Samuel became Kenjii and Zenji. For some years the two lived in Norg, trained by Ryoma in the ways of Ninjutsu. They had brought with them their father's books, and so learned to earn their own money through Goldsmithing, giving Tenshodo more reasons to keep them along. During his time here, Kenjii trained with Cire, and later Zetireti too. Cire was a lot better than him at Ninjutsu and would often inspire Kenjii in improving his skills. That was when the desire of revenge started to fill Kenjii's heart.

877 C.E.

He returned to Bastok at the age of 17 and with his brother introduced themselves as two long-gone members of the Asgard family. He did this to be able to claim their manor back without involving the Tenshodo. He then joined the Goldsmithing guild and proved his name again bringing the once lost Asgard techniques back in action. That kept the money coming and rumors silenced, but Kenjii had better plans than just having an easy life in his homeland.

878 C.E.

He met Zeid and asked for him to teach him the ways of the dark knight, aware of their stunning power. But Zeid refused, seeing that something was wrong in the heart of the boy, and dismissed him. With his hate growing more and more, Kenjii desired to be able to kill Shadowfang, and every demon, with his hands; what is coward father had failed to do. He did believe the rumors about Mathias Asgard running away from the Operation Snowstorm, afraid of the enemy's strength, and couldn't forgive him for his mother's death.

He wasn't there to protect her, and so Sephirya had drawn her sword for the first time and died. Kenjii would've avenged her name, so that no other woman would have to ever wield a weapon again. If only he could become a demon slayer…

That was the answer. Using his resources and contacts within the Tenshodo, Kenjii was trained by Ryoma and Ayame in the ways of samurai. He swore on his Great Katana that he would've put death on the demons once and for all.

879 C.E.

A couple years after his return to Bastok, Kenjii and Zenji were approached by a young elvaan female. She introduced herself as Kjara, a dragoon adventurer from San d'Oria.

While Kenjii didn't trust her, as any San d'Oria, he was surprised to see how interested she was in Zenji's dumbness and in their family's history. Kjara lived with the two for a while and took care of them, and while she learned more and more about them, Kenjii did the same by investigating on his own with Tenshodo knowledges.

10.2.3 Adulthood (20~)

880 C.E.

When he finally found out that she was a spy, and a cursed dragoon wanted by every nation, it was too late. Kjara and Zenji had already set off for Castle Zvahl to find clues about their father's disappearances. Refusing that his only belief, his only conviction would be proven wrong, Kenjii chased after them, and stopped them at the entrance of the Keep.

Believing that his father was a coward and a diserter was all what could push Kenjii to keep living, to keep fighting for his revenge, and he didn't want to lose it. After a bad argument with the two, Kenjii can't help but watch powerless as his brother sets off with the elvaan, to never return again.

Losing his last relative did nothing but raise Kenjii's hatred towards San d'Oria, the elvaans, Kjara and his own father. From then, he lived alone in his big mansion, doing nothing but training and crafting, refusing any high career his richness and status in the Bastokan society could grant him.

Some years later, he meets his former training partners Zetireti and Cire, and with them, Avina…

10.3 In Tales of Vana'diel

10.3.1 The Three Nations (Windurst)

883 C.E.

Kenjii appears in the story for the first time after Bastok mission 3.3, when Avina, Zetireti and Daltan decide to set off for Windurst with Kjara. He runs at the gates of Bastok Mines to watch Zetireti leaving, and making sure he will come back to the Republic eventually.

While Daltan and Avina try to introduce themselves to him in a nice way (even though they are a bit surprised and confused by his noble looking clothes), his reaction at the encounter is immediately cold and arrogant. Zetireti scolds him for not greeting his friends with the proper manners but he knew it couldn't be helped, as he knows Kenjii hates San d'Orians and doesn't like to see women taking the front lines in battle (like Avina's Dark Knight).

[OOC note: Kenjii doesn't have a personal hate towards females undertaking melee jobs. But he is sensitive towards them because of his mother's death. It's not like he doesn't think women can't defend themselves in battle, but he has a protective nature towards them, and seeing them fighting in the front lines risking their lives upsets him. Even though he reacts with coldness and criticism, he's hiding a very caring nature, to the point that if a woman in his party gets hurt he'll blame himself for not being able to protect them.]

After a small farewell, the group leaves and Kenjii goes back to his usual life in Bastok and training, as his match against Maat is imminent, and he won't see them for a good while (except a small event in which Kaolla warps Avina back to Bastok and she "pops" right on top of Kenjii, causing only another fight between the two).

After winning against the old man, Kenjii quickly recovers his wounds and being in Jeuno decides to take the chance and takes a ship to Windurst to see Zetireti again. Here he also meets Avina, Daltan, their new friends Kaolla and Obtili, and with his surprise Cire, his former partner in training, now an expert Monk and Ninja.

Sticking around for the Summerfest, he gets frustrated to see that in Avina's weird group the jokes about him and her making a good couple are starting to fly. This of course only makes their relationship even worse, to the point that he starts calling her "monkey" at every chance in their future sporadic encounters in Bastok.

In one of them, he stops Avina from destroying the Quadav's nest in the Palborough Mines. Even though the girl was enraged by what the beastmen had done to her father, he could not allow her to put Bastok into danger by goading the Quadavs into a straight attack to the town.

After convincing her to leave the eggs be, he also helps her to protect the Gustaberg Outpost from a beastmen assault with the assistance of some Tenshodo members.

And so little by little, Kenjii's past becomes clear and is revealed to Avina, mostly from Kjara, but also from the young man himself during some particular events. Such as the time where, while exploring Xarcabard as the final battle with the Shadow Lord approaches, the group runs into Kenjii in the Castle Zvhal Baleys, slaying demons left and right ignoring his own wounds. Obtili and Avina try their best, in a way or another, to stop Kenjii and make him think straight again, but only Zetireti's words seem to reach him.

Still with his desire of revenge in his heart, Kenjii stops killing the demons and retreats to Bastok, but as proud as he is he doesn't like the idea of being given orders by a younger samurai. This is how he throws a duel challenge to the Tarutaru, who accepts only so Kenjii would stay out of troubles until that day.
