At long last I've finally typed out some more to this. Nothing will change with how Aurou is currently in RP. I've always had this story in mind with how I RP her, I'm just lazy and haven't gotten around to written it all down. More to come.
–––––––––––––––––––––––-
This story surrounds Aurou from the time she was separated from the group when they first arrived in Tavnazia up until further notice.
She has quite a bit of inner monologue that will be in words and also includes Carbuncle's side of the conversation.
Posting in bits and pieces as I have time to type them up. There may be blood and/or some language in parts~
Other Characters introduced:
Romidiant: Royal Knight of San d'Oria. Blond hair and grey eyes, very tall Elvaan man. On escort duty for Zaith.
Zaith: Scout and Cartographer for the Kingdom of San d'Oria, sent to mark safe routes of the newly rediscovered Tavnazian region. Silver hair and green eyes, daintily built Elvaan woman.
Tobaias: 12 year old Elvaan boy. Son of Romidiant's best friend, secretly followed the Knight on his mission. Ginger hair and brown eyes.
Aurou… You need to go on alone. Aurou… MOVE! Leave! Aurou… I promise I will return. There are too many of them for us to win like this. Please go. Go… You need to live, and I promise… I shall return. NOW!
*shwuckshwuck*
Dust drifted through the still air and gravel settled in place around Aurou as she sat hunched over, hugging Carbuncle tightly. She shuttered trying to shake the sound arrows striking flesh and collapse of the tunnel from her thoughts.
Keep moving, it's not safe here.
Aurou felt her stomach turn, the sounds echoing in her head.
Aurou! Snap out of it and move!
Carbuncle wriggled out of her tight grasp to stand on his hind legs and push on Aurou's shoulders. Wake up, we need to go! He said 'Go!'
Aurou shook her head, mumbling quietly "You.. you'rrre rrright.." She struggled to her feet, reclaiming her thoughts. She stood frozen in place.
What are you doing? Let's go. Carbuncle took hold of her pants-leg in his mouth and tugged. Now. Let's go.
"Wherrre?"
It does not matter. We just need to get away from here! he tugged hard, causing her to stumble a step forward, This way. Carbuncle ran several yalms ahead, stopping to make sure Aurou was following him.
Aurou followed Carbuncle as he weaved through the trees and plants of the forest that surrounded the ruins of Tavnazia.
"I want to stop now… Carrrby, stop…" Aurou sunk to her knees, catching her breath. She cast a glance over her shoulder back towards the tunnel. There was still a cloud of dust hanging above the trees. Aurou bit her lip, watching as a small flock of Vultures began to circle over the cliff face.
"Aurou… You need to go on alone." He was so calm when he said that… had he expected it? She took a deep breath, attempting to calm her racing heart.
Carbuncle sat back on his hanches, watching his Summoner try to sort through her shock. He twiched an ear, remaining vigilent while Aurou could not. He looked around wearily, not feeling anywhere near at ease in the strange terrain.
*Crack*
The Avatar bolted to all four paws, his eyes narrowing towards the spot where something crashed behind Aurou.
*Crack*
Aurou looked past Carbuncle. "What was that?"
Something is watching you. He turned to follow her gaze as a third object, a rock, landed close to Aurou. Stay here, stay down. I will take care of this.
Aurou scootched up against a large tree, grabbing her staff from it's place upon her back. "Carrrby?" she whispered, the blue creature had vanished out of her sight. She crept forward, scanning the area surrounding her. Nothing stood out, trees as far as she could see.
Aurou stepped lightly, peering around. She could hear the crunch of some dried leaves and the rustle of bushes down the path aways. That must be Carbuncle… He ran that way, I think? She rose to her toes, trying to get an extra inch trying to spot her companion over the brush. "Carrrbuncle?" Aurou spoke quietly, the rustling growing more faint.
The Mithra stood frozen, a dull thunk resonating around her.
She blinked, confused by the sound. Where did that come from?
*hauh huaah*
What is that sound..? Aurou pinpointed the breathing to her right, however she found herself unable to look towards it.
The dull thunk sounded again.
Aur turned her eyes, something large in her sight for just a moment. She fought again to look about, to no avail. This isn't right…
Something warm began to trickle down her neck, quickly soaking into her green doublet.
"Ca-carrrb..uncle…." her voice came out as a squeak.
Aurou? The blue creature jumped into the path in the distance. Aurou! He began to run towards her, a glint of panic lighting his eyes.
Something rumbled next to her ears. She looked up, the stiffness finally beginning to wear.
To her shock, the horrid sound was the laughter of a gigas towering over the small Mithra.
"What arrre you doing..?" Aurou whimpered, tripping back a step from the monster.
Get away! Run away! Carbuncle shouted, rushing to reach her.
She gasped as the beastman grinned down at her. The air that filled her nose and lungs smelled oddly metallic scent. Tenatively, Aur reached her hand to the back of her neck.
The wet… this smell… She stared at her hand, her fingertips stained red.
The gigas let out another laugh, the deep bass of his voice rattling her to the core.
A hallow crack rang out, Aurou's eyes drifting to her Avatar. He had stopped dead in his tracks.
Hang on.. his voice sounded strained as she watched him curiously for a moment until her line of vision started to fade to black around the sides. Aurou st- Carbuncle was cut off, Aurou's magical link to him fadeing. The Avatar bowed his head, vanishing into the void wence he came.
Aurou took a weak breath, the smell of blood almost overpowering now as he doublet became damp with it. She dropped to her knees and feel forward, her energy fleeting away.
"Kitty tired!" The gigas cackled, kicking her staff out of her limp grasp before walking away from her.
Aur watched as the monster disappeared into the foliage, her vision blurring and growing darker with each passing moment.
"We had better start heading back, looks like a storm is rolling in," an Elvaan man clad in light traveling armor motioned to his companions to follow him back to the trail the had strayed off of.
"It has gotten quite dark… Hmmm… Come along Tobaias," the Elvaan woman called, stowing away some parchment and pens. Her silver hair was braided neatly, resting upon a shoulder of her bright red Aketon.
"Awwww… but Romi, it's just rain…" the boy whined, dragging his feet back to the path.
"This area is prone to lightning. The storms that we have seen thus far pale in comparison to what we could incounter," the woman said in a matter-of-fact tone.
"But we haven't seen one yet!" Tobaias kicked a rock, grumbling.
"Listen to the Lady," Romidiant chuckled, watching his young charge, "She is the region expert, afterall." He grinned, watching a fierce blush cover her face.
"Miss Zaith… do we really, really have to go?"
"Yes, we 'really, really have to go.'" Zaith glared at Romi's expression, only elevating his amusement. "Come now," she took Tobaias by the hand, leading him to the trail as thunder rumbled far in the distance.
"After you, m'lady," Romidiant gave a grandiose bow as Zaith passed by, to which she only shook her head at him.
"One would think that after two weeks of traveling together that you would give up on these silly things," Zai remarked as Romidiant fell in step beside the other two.
"A Royal Knight never gives up," Romi pounded his fist to his chest in a moving salute.
Toby watched Romidiant with stars in his eyes, dazzled by the older Elvaan and his title. The boy drew a wooden sword tied to his side and waved it in the air, "Don't worry Lady Zaith!! One day I will be a great Knight too and then I can protect you!"
Zaith brushed her bangs aside in a motion of annoyance, "You will teach him bad habits, Romidiant… that boy idolizes you." She shook her head as Toby ran ahead on the path, swinging his sword at branches and leaves to clear the path.
Romi just laughed, "There is nothing wrong with him wanting to be like me, is there?" He raised an eyebrow in a mock-serious face.
"We shall let his parents decide when we return to the Kingdom, I am certain that he picked up some rather unfavorable tendancies from you." Zaith hmphed, walking ahead to find the boy.
Tobaias waved his toy sword frantically at the pair from up ahead on the trail. His face was pale as he ran to Romidiant, "R-romi… over there!"
"Hmm?" The Knight watched the boy with concern, checking that his great sword was readily within reach on his back. "What is it, Toby?"
"Over there… in the-in the bushes.." Toby stammered.
Zaith and Romidiant exchanged a look. Zai nodded to him, pulling Toby close to her. "It will be all-right, do not worry.." she spoke calmly to him, trying to ease his fear.
Romi drew his weapon, holding it low in a guard position, as he walked silently to where Toby had been so afraid of.
He paused on the path, the sickening smell of blood riding the breeze of the storm. Romidiant raised his hand in a harsh motion, telling Zaith and Tobaias to stay where they were.
He ventured off the path against the breeze, his sword at the ready position. Whatever was out there, he was ready to fight it.
There didn't seem to be any sign of a struggle, no noticibly broken branches or flattened grass… no signs of weapons being swung… no sounds other than the soft wind and his own breathing.
Tobaias saw something. What was it? Romi gritted his teeth, the smell strong. I must be getting close
Romidiant stepped cautiously, finding himself in a small clearing.
He took another stride, the ground damp under his foot. Here I am… his steely eyes traced across the ground, looking for the soure of the blood at his feet.
Romidiant's gaze finally found it's way to the lifeless body of a Mithra. He took a couple steps back not wanting to acidentally kick the woman, as well as get a better look at the battle site. Still nothing stood out; no sign of a struggle whatsoever.
Romi shook his head, Whatever got her took her by surprise.
*snap*
Romi jumped, his sword raised to strike.
"Put that down… it is just us…" Zaith and Tabaias made their way into the clearing. "It was quiet out on the road still…" Zaith's voice softened as she realized what had scared Tobi. She raised her hand to cover her face a bit, paling at the sight and smell. Tobaias hid behind her, peeking out at Romidiant.
"Is this what you saw?" Romi looked to Tobi, who nodded in turn. "Was there anyone.. or anything else here?" Tobi shook his head slowly.
Romidiant sighed. "We should get back to camp before whatever got her finds us." He sheathed his sword, kicking at some grass to remove the blood from his boots.
"We can't just leave her." Zaith looked at him in shock. "She is someone's daughter or wife… Someone surely is missing her"
"Lady Zaith… what do you propose we do with her? If this was Ronfaure, then that's one thing. This is a region that we shouldn't even be in. Hell, she probably shouldn't have been here, look what happened to her! I won't let that happen to you on my watch." Romidiant crossed his arms over his chest, growing annoyed.
"You had best help then. I am not leaving her here to rot alone." Zaith had leaned down next to the Mithra, looking her over.
Romi blinked. She can't be serious, what will we do with a dead body? He groaned, "Fine. Let's just get moving. Tobi, be a lad and gather the Mithra's gear." He pointed to her pack and staff a few feet away.
Tobaias looked mortified at the thought of touching a dead person's belongings. "That won't.. anger her spirit.. will it?" He stared wide-eyed at Zaith as she gently turned the woman over.
"No… in fact, I think she would be angry if we just left it here… Lady Zaith is right, we need to bring her with us. She needs to be put at peace." Romi rubbed his head, having given in to this foolishness.
"Romi…" Zaith spoke in a hushed tone, her head hovering over the Mithra, "I think she is still alive…"
Look at me A male voice rang loudly in Aurou's mind. Open your eyes and look at me
. . .
Aurou blinked a couple times, finding herself in a dimly lit place. Not quite a room, not quite outside… just somewhere… She looked around, he mind hazey.
Where am I? She noticed that she was on her feet, blood dripping into a small puddle from her soaked right doublet sleeve.
Aurour blinked again. The pain and nausea was gone, she wasn't dizzy and there was no ringing in her ears.
I'm dead… arent I? She asked the voice that had spoken to her.
Not yet the voice chuckled, You will be soon though.
Aurou was feeling her head, wincing as she touched the gash. What do you want then? Let me be alone in my last moments She sighed, looking at her bloodied hand.
I didn't think you were one to give up so easily, the voice sounded disappointed, I guess I was wrong.
Aur looked around again, this place disorienting to her. Where are you? You've already disrupted my peace, what do you want? Let's hear it…
"Maybe I was right about you, then." A Hume man with brown hair and scraggly beard stood just a couple yalms before her. He looked her over with great curiousity.
"What do you want?" Aurou asked again, her voice soft and tired.
He circled around her, continuing on with his examination while muttering incoherently to himself.
"You'rrre making me dizzy…"
"Nonsense. I am but a figment of your imagination. All in your head. I can't make you dizzy here, my dear." He chuckled again.
"I don't think you'd be the last thing I think of while I lay dying.."
The Hume grinned. "You are quite the find."
Aurou stared at him, her interest fading fast as reality began to set back in.
"Hmmmm… hmmm hmmm hmmmmm…" The Hume stood in front of her again, nodding. "Yes, you will do nicely."
"What forrr?"
"Let's not talk about that now, not just yet." He shook his head, "No. About the proposition that I have for you." He gazed at her, thinking.
". . ." Aurou stared back at him, the silence unsettling, "What prrroposition?"
"Ah, yes! I will let you live if you agree to do something for me."
"Why would you help me? I still don't even know who you arrre…" The promise of some hope had sparked her interest.
"I am in need of some help myself. I thought you would be up for a trade." He nodded to her.
"What kind of help..?" Something didn't seem right about this guy, but she had little other choice. Help him or just give up and die… Aurou looked him over wearily.
The man was wearing a black and red attire, one that she wasn't familiar with. It seemed rather showy and ornate… something not practical for fighting in.
He simply nodded, knowing that he'd already won her over. "We will talk about that at another time." He raised his hand to brush some blood from her face. "You may call me Tajid."
"Tajid… but I don't underrrstand what you want me to do in rrreturrrn…"
"We will talk again. I promise." He smiled, waving off her questions. "For now, you just need to work on regaining your strength. I can't promise that you will be just as you were before your accident.. but you will be alive."
Aurou nodded. "That's morrre than I would have without you I guess…"
"That's right." He smiled once more, vanishing before her eyes. Her surroundings began to darken again. The dizzyness and nausea set in once more…
"What?!" Romidiant was kneeling at Zaith's side, feeling for a pulse on the Mithra.
"She is breathing still, but it is very shallow." She frowned, "I do not know for how much longer…" Zaith looked at the ground, trying to guage the blood loss.
I almost left her to die.. Romidiant mentally shamed himself, tearing his sleeve for something to slow the Mithra's bleeding. He muttered a healing spell under his breath as he searched for her wound.
"I thought she was gone too.." Zaith spoke to Romidiant softly, noticing the change in his demeanor.
"Mmhmmph…" Romi answered absently, tearing his other sleeve with his teeth as he continued to hold pressure on her head.
"Miss Zaith, Romi.." Tobaias had drug over a heavy pack and staff.
Zaith nodded to him, "Please make sure nothing else is lying about?"
"Yes ma'am." Tobi turned around, greatful to be leaving the mess and bloodied woman.
Zaith began to hum quietly to herself, watching as Romidiant cautiously cradled the Mithra in his arms. She hefted the heavy pack onto her back and picked up the staff.
"You got that alright? Tobi should carry it." Romi looked back at Zai.
"I will be fine. Tobaias did enough by simply finding her.."
Romi nodded, giving a quick shout for Tobi, and started on his way. "Let's get back before it really does start to storm.."
–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
"She's looking better already, some of her color is back." Romidiant whispered, afraid to wake Tobaias and disturb the now stably sleeping Mithra, as he ran a damp warm cloth over her face in an attempt to clean her up.
Zaith looked up from her browsing through the contents of the pack to smile at Romi. "You are doing so well with her… I must admit that I am a bit surprised."
"We learn how to take care of eachother, you know." He spoke of himself and the other Royal Knights. "We're not always lucky enough to have a personal mage with us…" He glanced over to Zai, "Have you found anything useful?"
Zaith sighed, "She seems like an adverage adventurer… a lot of gear, food, medicines, maps… I found her Chocobo License from Jeuno, but her name is faded."
"No other papers? Letters? What about a linkpearl?" He stood, stretching his back.
Zaith shook her head, "I haven't seen anything else as of yet. Maybe I have missed something, though?" She looked tiredly over the contents spread over the table.
"I'll take a look. You should try to get some rest." Romidiant tossed a log on the fire, "I will stay up and watch her. No sense in the both of us being exausted. We'd have to let Tobi take care of everything!"
Zai frowned. "Are you sure? I could take first watch over her," she offered.
"Go," He gently nudged her shoulder, to which she nodded.
"Wake me if you need anything."
–––––––––––––––––––––––-
"Aurou Mhitoa" Romidant butchered the pronounciation, holding up a folded and tattered paper triumphantly for a dreary Zaith to see.
"Hmm?" She rubbed her eyes, stoking the low fire. "Good morning to you too?"
"The Mithra's name. I found her Airship Pass tucked inside of that map book." He grinned, "You might want to look through that book too. She has a good chunck of the region mapped out already."
"Really?" Zaith flipped open the book, looking over a couple pages before pausing and shutting it again. "What is wrong with me… How is she doing today? She did well through the night?" She peered over the folded pass, "Aurou," Zai corrected Romi, saying the name correctly. "How is Aurou?"
"She's a fighter. Already looking much better. I think she will pull through just fine once she regains her strength."
"I'm glad to hear that," Zai smiled. "Go get a few hours rest, Romidiant? I can look after her and Tobaias now."
"You need to change her bandages in another hour or so…" He looked at Zaith wondering if she was capable of such a task.
"Go on now. I may be a lady, but I am not helpless." She shoo'd Romi towards his bed.
((OOC Note: This one contains a little more blood than I'd normally write and features the normal RP characters, skip part of the end if you don't like it))
Lush green grass surrounded her as far as the eye could see. The sky was a pale orange of sunset with stars begining to peek through the turning dusk.
Aurou turned in a circle, looking around. The meadow was empty near her, but she could hear faint laughter somewhere in the distance. She walked, no reason to remain.
Reaching the sounds she saw a campfire burning brightly and many familiar faces enjoying the plesent night.
Avina and Kenjii sat together flirting the only way that they knew how, bickering amoungst eachother. Kaolla sat on a log with a bottle in each hand, a third on the ground with her tail curled around it protectively. Ryder paced around, donning shiney plate armor, keeping watch over the gathering. Kirious sat with a stack two-feet high of papers, on which he vigorously scribbled some notes. Saerun danced for a crowd of some of the crew the Aurou knew less well (Dreanan, Muriru, Zeti, Jericho, and several more that she didn't know by name), all clapping in time with the rythm. Another Saerun, presumably Sobe, stood nearby in full blue mage attire with her arms crossed over her chest watching the crowd around Sae. Her Carbuncle munched from a full pouch of cookies beside Sobe, digging a new one out with his paws as he ate threw them. Nodem sat closest to Aurou, his back to her, polishing the metal of a gun while enjoying a drink.
Everyone was there… Aurou looked at them all curiously, tilting her head. Something was off, but what she could not quite figure out. No one was doing anything strange, other than them all being there at once.
It was probably nothing… She shook her head, clearing the thoughts, as Saerun waved and called out to her while dancing.
"Aurou, you made it!" Saerun's voice made all the others turn to look at her. They waved and smiled before going back to their own business.
"Come here m'love," Nodem turned back and reached his hand out to her.
Aurou felt a smile light up her face. She was just being overly cautious for some reason when there was no need. She began to walk over to the group; to Nodem.
Something caused Carbuncle stopped eating his cookies to look up a moment and walk out past Aurou. Her eyes followed the Avatar as she paused to watch. He looked back at her breifly and vanished.
"What was that about?" Aurou asked aloud, turning back to her friends. Silence settled in the air as the laughter abruptly died.
Aurou gasped, covering her face with her hands. Crimson stained the emerald grass and covered the motionless bodies around the roaring fire. She blinked back tears, moving away from the carnage.
The look of shock and horror was still visible in the eyes of Avina and Kenjii, both run through with a polearm. Firelight danced off of several large shards of glass protruding from Kaolla's abdomen. Saerun and Sobe lay in a mess of beastmen limbs, and a monsterous creature had collapsed in the stack of papers that Kirious had previously been guarding.
The fire had spread beyond the bed of rocks containing it in a circle, creeping slowly across the wet grass to engulf the bodies.
The gun that Nodem had been polishing dropped to the ground and skided to Aurou's feet. She stumbled back farther, her gaze wandering over to Nodem. Aurou quickly turned her back to the scene, realizing that the gun had been fired at it's owner.
She shook her head, rubbing her eyes, "This isn't real…"
–––––––––––––––-
"No!" Aurou cried out, something that amounted to little more than a weak cough. The sound of her own voice startled her. She blinked furiously, tears and the light of the room stinging her eyes.
*thunk*
A book closing across the room accompanied a rush of steps towards her side. "Miss Aurou? Have you awakened?" A woman whispered from a couple yalms away.
Aurou whimpered in response, trying to pull a blanket covering herself over her head.
"You've done so much forrr me, I won't everrr be able to rrrepay you…" Aurou spoke quietly, her own voice causing her a headache.
"Nonsense. We did not help you with repayment in mind," Zaith laughed softly, helping Aurou wash dried blood from her hair. "This is the least that we can do to help you."
"Hmm.." Aur winced as cool water was trickled over her head.
"Do you remember yet? What exactly happened in the forest?" Zaith gently rubbed Aur's hair in her hands, starting to see the white return.
"Only bits and pieces…" Aur sighed, "I don't rrrememberrr why I was rrrunning, orrr what hit me… but something hit me, I couldn't move out of the way fast enough… my magic cerrrtainly didn't help."
"Maybe it is for the better… You were quite a mess when we found you."
Aurou laughed bitterly, causing Zai to give her a questioning look. She shrugged, "It's nothing."
"Dinnnner~" Romidiant called with a grin. He and Tobaias came walking up the path holding a couple birds from a hunting trip. "Tobi got one all on his own!" He ruffled the boys hair proudly.
Tobi was grinning from ear to ear, "Miss Zaith, do you see?!" He bounced up and down, feathers falling from the dead bird.
"Very good, Tobaias," Zaith smiled to them. "We are almost done here. Then I will help you prepare them."
"No need, we can handle it." Romi waved off her offer, "You two look busy enough."
"You don't look the same at all," Tobi blurted out, staring at Aurou.
Aurou glanced sidelong at the boy, "Thanks? I think.."
"You're welcome," he smiled strangely to her. "It was a compliment."
"Heh…" Aur looked to Zaith for an escape from the conversation.
"Run along now, you two," Zaith poured a bucket of water over Aurou's head. "We will be done shortly."
–––––––––––––––––––––––––-
"I picked this for you." Tobaias held a single flower out to Aurou.
She blinked at the boy who stood just a bit shorter than her. "What's this for?" she asked, gingerly taking the flower.
"Just because.." Tobi blushed, "I-thought-it-was-pretty-and-you-might-like-it!" he blurted before rushing off.
Aur stood dumbstruck as Romidiant laughed, "I think he likes ya'" He winked to her as he sharpened his blade.
She shook her head, "Strrrange boy… what will he do when I leave?"
"Nothing strange about it, he's just being a normal boy. You might be the first Mithra he's met, too."
"Oh?" She looked the flower over.
"Mhmm. He spends a lot of time helping his father run the shop. Chores and errands and such keep him pretty busy back home."
"I can't imagin being cooped up like that when I was his age… So much worrrk forrr a kid." Aur made a face at the flower.
Romidiant nodded his agreement, testing the edge of his sword. "Everything okay?" He glanced at her, noticing the expression.
"What kind of flowerrr is this?" She held it out to the knight.
He took it, looking only for a moment before handing it back. "It's just a common wildflower. They grow all over Vana'Diel."
"Is it?" Aurou held it up to get more light.
"Yep. Why? Allergic?"
She shook her head. "Not in the least. It just looks differrrent somehow."
"Looks like every other red wildflower I've ever seen."
Aurou turned her gaze on him, "Rrred?"
"Well it's not blue." He answered sarcastically.
"I see…" She set the flower down beside her, "Maybe… I need a nap…"
"What?" Romidiant set his sword aside to pay full attention to Aurou.
"It doesn't look rrright to me.." She shook her head, "You'rrre rrright.. it's a common flowerrr, I've seen many, many of them in my trrravels."
"What looks wrong?" He moved to sit next to the Mithra. "The color?"
She nodded. "This place is so unfamiliarrr to me… I just discounted all of the odd things as being new to me… the trrrees, the fish… the flowerrrs… I rrrememberrr them frrrom beforrr my accident. They werrre differrrent, I just thought.. I might be rrrememberrring wrrrong, since I can't even rrrememberrr what I was hit with."
"You can't see right?" He looked at her closely.
Aurou pushed Romi back a bit, "I'm fine, I'm surrre. And I don't think you'll see anything wrrrong. I will be okay." She put a false cheeryness to her voice not wanting him to worry any more. "Anyways… I am a little tirrred, I think I might go lay down now…" Aurou stood and walked away before Romidiant could say anything else to her.
––––––––––––––––––-
"You believe that she was speaking the truth?" Zaith frowned as she and Romidiant spoke late into the night.
Romidiant sighed, nodding. "I've never seen someone so confused about something so simple." He was twirling the flower between his fingers. "I don't know what she was seeing, but apparently it wasn't this."
"I see…" Zaith rubbed her brow.
"I know you had hoped to stay here longer… but I think…"
"I know," she cut him off, "We need to head back. I am sure that Tobaias' family would appreciate to know that their son is alive, too."
Romi breathed a sigh of relief.
"I'm not unreasonable all of the time." Zai scowled at him.
He chuckled. "Just when I thought I knew you well enough, you still surprise me, m'lady."
"With Aurou's maps, I think that I have enough for now." She continued on, ignoring the comment, "I never expected to have a map of the city, it is more than we set out for."
"Are you convincing me or yourself?"
"A bit of both, I fear…"
Romidiant nodded, "Okay, then. Get some sleep. We will get our gear and supplies set tomorrow, and head out at dawn the next day."
–––––––––––––––––––––––––-
((OOC: This will be the end of Tavnazia finally. Still more to come to catch up to the current plot))
Aurou flicked her tail impatiently as she stared at a light being shone in her eyes. "I'm not blind, I can see that, you know."
Romidiant chuckled from the doorway, "The Doc is trying to help you, sit still and be quiet."
Monberaux nodded, setting the light tool aside. "Listen to your friend. We need to find out if your condition is permanent or temporary."
Aur rolled her eyes, "I didn't want to come herrre…"
"I know," the Doc murmured looking over her scar. " Does this hurt any?"
"No… should it?"
Monberaux jotted down some quick notes, pressing on with another question, "And you don't remember what happened?"
Aur sighed, "No."
"Hmmm…" He gently prodded the mark on her head, looking for a reaction.
Aurou stared up at the doctor, blinking. "Well?"
"Well. It looks like you are healing nicely, you were lucky if your story is true."
I already knew this… She shot a quick glare at Romi, who shrugged in return.
"One moment." Monberaux walked out of the room to speak to one of his attendants, who went off to run some errand.
"This is a waste of time… forrr the both of us." Aur looked to Romidiant as they waited.
"Nonsense. I had to make sure you were okay to leave on your own."
"I apprrreciate all that you've done forrr me, Rrromi… but I just want to-" She stopped mid-sentence, seeing Monberaux coming back into the room with a parcel. "It's lunch time?" She frowned, seeing a bunch of apples in the doctor's arms.
"You can eat them if you want in a minute," the doctor smiled as he set the fruit on a side table, arranging a row of three side-by-side. "Just a couple more questions."
"Apples..?" Aurou questioned, her and Romidiant each gave an equally quizzical look.
"Which one is different?" Monberaux asked simply, giving Romidiant a harsh look to stay quiet.
Aurou stared at them a moment, then turned her gaze between the doctor and knight. "One is differrrent?"
" Do they all look different?" Moberaux asked, sounding hopeful at her question.
She looked them over once more before frowning. "They'rrre yellow. All of them." Aur sighed, hopping off of the examination table and walking out of the infirmary.
"That's what she sees?" Romidiant shook his head, setting some gil on the table for the doc.
"Her injury…" he paused a moment to consider his wording, "has caused her brain and eyes to not communicate properly… the red and green apples here, look just like the yellow one." He named the colored apples as he put them into a basket.
"I see.." Romi rubbed his brow, "Thank you for seeing her, Doc."
Monberaux nodded, "Please let Aurou know that she is welcome to come back should anything come up."
"Of course." Romidiant nodded once more, then hurrying out to try to catch up to Aur.

"Kupu!!!" A flutter of glitter exploded as Aurou stepped into her rental room, knocking her from her feet. "KUPU!"
"Let me up!" Aur grumbled, rubbing her backside. She blinked, the sparkles clearing up, as she finally got a look at Moggie's pink puffball and wings. This will take getting used to.. She rubbed her eyes, wishing for the awful yellows to go away.
"Kupu! Mistrrress Aurou, you've been gone for ages! Where have you been, Kupu?!"
"I don't rrreally want to talk about it rrright now…" she sighed, dusting herself off and shutting the door behind them.
"Kupu? Is everything okay, kupu?" Moggie hovered infront of her, looking worried.
Aurou waved off her concern. "It's a long storrry… I'll tell you laterrr?"
Moggie nodded, "Later, Kupu. Do you need anything?" The moogle took Aurou's pack and satchel from her, rushing about the room to get it comfortable for her master.
Aur shook her head, "Just a nap forrr now, I think."
"Kupu, I will do some shopping while you rest, Kupu." The Moogle vanished in a poof of sparkles, leaving Aurou alone in the quiet room.
Aurou sighed softly, crawling into the bed positioned in the corner of the room near the fire. She kicked her boots off, not bothering with the rest of her gear, and curled up under the blankets.
It's nice to be back… I hope everyone else has found their way home too…
Aur pulled the pillow under the blankets to hug it to herself, wiping a few tears away that had suddenly welled up in her eyes.
I hope he made it out okay… she buried her face in the pillow, finally allowing her self to cry over everything that had happened over the past couple weeks.
