Okay, I found your site on the hopes that if I join the FFXI community long term, i'd apply to your guild (Linkshell or whatever it's called in xi terms). Problem is, i'm having issues with character creation, and i must ask, are all Tarutaru female (i haven't tried males) fated to have dark skin in game? The character I am attempting to create is supposed to be fair skinned, and whilst it gives that impression in the creation stage, no matter what i choose, once the game actually starts, they look like they've spent way too long in a sun-bed.

I've tried a variety of faces, hairs and i cannot figure out why every taru i make turns out dark skinned when I really want a fair skinned taru. Is it the graphics? in which case is it even possible to turn up from this pixelled mess?

I'm really not trying to complain, but when a game can kill my RP motive right off the bat, it's just not good for me. o.o

Any advise or help would be appreciated.

Yeah, all of them have the same skin tone in game. The colors in the character creation screen do not accurately represent what you'll get in the game.

I'll admit, I haven't taken a good look at Tarutarus, but I believe they're actually quite fair skinned. Just try going through the character creation and start playing. They don't quite look the same in the creation screen as they do in game, as Kirious mentioned.

Taru's actually do tend to be more tanned than Hume's and Elvaan. Here's a pic of my Taru storage character for reference…

A different hair color might make their skin look less dark compared to mine with her light grey/blue hair… but I wouldn't base everything on the characters looks ;)

Thanks, i guess I'll have to deal with it. And it's actually the character creation that is rather deceptive in the sense of a light toned tarutaru.

So, would anyone like to show a new player the ropes? ^_^ (Played 14, but my computer nearly died on it, so i wanted to try 11. Also looooves to RP, but i feel i should probably get acquainted to the game and lore before i try rping on here)

Good to see that we might get a new Tarutaru!

I recently joined a new social shell that might be keen on taking on some newcomers, I know they have in the past. :) I can definitely help you out with getting to know game stuff though. :) The game is a lot easier to get started out on these days in terms of leveling and such, but you'll still want a linkshell if not only to ask people questions. :)

We actually have a couple of people in the hopper right now who are sorta starting up new characters for the RP, and I'm working on a new RP character myself (well, sorrrrrta new). So we can definitely get some leveling together in to help you move along a bit :)

Also, I'm the coordinator for the RP group, so when you decide on whether or not you'd like to join the group for RP, just come talk to me!

Considering where Tarutaru normally hail from, them having a darker/tanned look makes some sense. Of course, you can always RP as a Taru that's -paler- than normal.

I'm not in-game much right now (lots of RL stuff going on), but keep an eye out for me and don't be shy to send me a tell.

Oh, if you haven't learned it yet, the search command is:

/sea all Draenen (or whoever's name you're looking for)
–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
When the hero enters to kill me, I will ask him to first explain to my grandchild why it is necessary to kill her beloved grandma. When the hero launches into an explanation of morality way over her head, that will be her cue to pull the lever and send him into the pit of crocodiles. After all, small children like crocodiles almost as much as Evil Overlords and it's important to spend quality time with the grandkids.

"How hard did you hit him?"
"Quite hard, actually. For some reason he irritated me." They stared back to where the Grolim lay.
"You're getting to be more like Belgarath every day," Silk told him. "You do more damage out of simple irritation than most men can do in a towering rage."

Funny you should say that, since I went through the forums about your rules and stuff, saw you were recruiting Taru and i thought… well, ideal, I like the Taru and was gonna be one anyway.

Might want to go over the type of character I'd play, i tend to play the shy, cute, sweet young thing who tends to have a rather dark path. (Ironically enough, when i played 14, i wanted to be unique by making a 'normal' character, one who grew up rather normal and happy, no drama, etc, and i still ended up being wrong in my decision to others. >.>)

Still, it'll be an interesting experience, once i get used to how it all works.

Provided a character isn't a Farmer Bubba/Bessy who has absolutely no interest in the world beyond the turnip patch and will never leave/change, I don't think there's anything wrong with a normal character in this setting.

well, when you have almost everyone trying to be unique with dark or mysterious backstories, who have some kind of unique (potentially demonic or godlike if they're new to rping) power or sense, or have amazing natural ability or some other trait that someone uses in an attempt to become more unique or even 'better' than the rest, i find it funny how if i made a character who is particularly averaged or lesser skilled in pretty much all aspects, a learner wanting to explore the world with a happy childhood with no random dark event that was life changing, who has both of their parents waiting for them if they decide to go home and just wants a normal life of adventure turns out to be more unique than most people's dark broody super-powered characters.

For those who didn't follow that.

In this day and age, i find people who make "Special Characters" (Dark past, super power that no one else has etc) are actually turning into the norm, meaning someone who is normal (no special powers, avarage or learner skill with happy childhood no dark event) actually becomes the unique.

I mean when i RP'd on wow, there were so many people possessed by a powerful demon which has never been varified lore-wise, or have some mystic about them that puts them far above us mortal whelps, that i found very few who'd actually play a reasonable character, who really has little uniqueness about them, which ironically makes the unique as characters.
