Up until now we've always ignored IC gear swaps but I've been putting some thought into maybe making it something our characters learn how to do, to maybe add more depth to the range of gear that our characters use. It's not entirely far-fetched to me either since in a lot of Japanese anime and such you get a lot of characters transforming into different outfits all the time… but I was wanting to bring this idea up to people and see what they thought.

A couple questions I have are…

1. First off, are you even interested in IC gear swaps? If not interested, are you opposed to other RPers gear-swapping? Just a general idea on how you feel about this idea.
2. Any possible explanation? An ability our characters learn somehow? We could make an event out of it or make some custom storyline for something like this.

LOL as the unofficial “magical girl” of the group Kaolla would be the natural character for a transformation or “henshin” power. Though I have always disliked gear swapping for two reasons. One it always took me OOC cause I could never think of a good IC explanation for it. Two, it just always seems like such a hassle.

Kaolla does have a few different items of gear but I have them designed to be worn in layers IC which Kaolla has to change her clothes naturally to expose.

I’m not saying I’m against the idea but until I have more details as to how it will be explained IC I’ll have to say the idea seems a bit on the OOC side. Weapon swapping of course needs no explanation, since we’ve already established that gobbie bags are a kinda hammer-space IC. Which can also account for a large wardrobe, it’s just the actual act of changing that needs some more details. How fast does it happen, if another char’s eyes are good enough to they get a lil show like in magical girl anime? Or are we playing that it happens too fast and that nobody’s eyes are good enough for the “audience view” of the transformation?

I guess could always tie it in with moogle magic, that seems to be the easiest explanation. But like I said I’d need more details before I form an opinion.

Might be worth it though just for the pure LOL value of say Kenjii shouting out something like “Moon Prism Power Makeup!” Not a serious suggestion, but come on *giggles* you know you’d laugh your ass off watching him twirl around IC with the sparkles and the magic wardrobe changing :3

Of course usually the girls get the long transformation sequences and the guys get the short ones. I mean watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qy_br0svSjI&playnext=1&list=PLCC0B272C2DC651D3 the girls take forever and show off but the one guy shows nothing. Of course he is younger than most of the girls but the young girl is shown just as neked as the older one though her sequence does linger on the “nudity” for a much shorter period of time. If we are going to do transformation outfit changes I demand it to be mandatory for at least one of the guys for the sake of fairness.

I think it really only would work if the change was instantaneous like it is in the game. If it was anything other than that, it would really drag the RP pace down. If we were to do it the most I would expect in the form of 'special effects' from something like this would be that there'd be a flash and after the flash they've changed.

I think it would also depend on what clothes are being changed. If you're just pulling off a jacket, and had a swimsuit on underneath, that'd be one thing (and possibly vice versa would work). However, going from one jacket to another might be something we could make instant.

And I've always considered gear swaps to be IC, unless someone specifically says it's an OOC gear swap (for fights and such).

Could use a firework before "transforming." That could be the special effects…

As for the idea:

1: I like this idea.
2: Maybe make it an added bonus for fighting all the sky gods or some random boss. (Only down side is that people who weren't there wouldn't have gained this ability)

As I've mentioned in the past, in my previous RP group we had a galka who introduced this kind of transformation power. Meaning that while he'd normally fight in Gallant set, upon using Invincible he'd swap to Valor set and use it for the whole duration of the 2hr (exactly like in some anime you see the heroine swap to a different uniform to unleash her most poweful strike to the enemy).

Personally I'm against things such as a whole transformation cutscene à-la-Sailor Moon so to speak, so no you'll never see Kenjii twirl like a girl or pull any corny quote of transformation <.<. But I think it would be fine to have IC gear swap powers upon certain circumstances.

The 2hr could be an example, like the galka in my RP, or else one could adopt a different gear swap while a different "stance" is in effect, as pretty much every job has two modalities nowadays (Defender/Berserk, Afflatus Solace/Misery, Saber/Fan Dance, Light/Dark Arts, Seigan/Hasso, Innin/Yonin etc.). Or they could just implement the OOC game mechanics and have this clothes transformation upon using weaponskills or special job abilities (like Quick Draw).

Personally if I were to pick one I'd probably adopt the stance transformation for SAM and NIN and the 2hr transformation for BLU and BRD. But I think everyone should be free to pick the circumstances in which they will transform.

As for explaining how can we do this… I can't really think of an event to RP that would grant us such a power. My suggestions are either of these two:

- 1) We have already this power, it could be justified by the always-working excuse of Moogle Magic. This would probably not allow us to RP it though.

- 2) We wait for the end of CoP and claim that the magical Tear of Altana the player is touched by at the end of the final fight (which turns also in a permanent key item for some reason that is beyond me) grants us the power of these transformations.

If you have other ideas that make sense go ahead and write them, I'm totally interested in implementing gear swap IC.
To be an interesting, intriguing, well-written character, there needs to be something to allow the audience to relate to them. That is what the problem is with who wants their character to be "perfect". Perfect characters will never be strong, and strong characters will never be perfect, because WE (those who read, who watch, who RP) are not perfect.

"What makes a strong character is how they deal with their flaws, their fears, their turmoils, their troubles that get in the way. That's what makes them relatable." – Doug Walker

I came up with another way to obtain this ability. It could possibly be linked to WoTG. Like when we first get sent through the maw our clothes change, and later we learn how to control it.

I'm honestly a little "Eh…" about the idea, and the likelihood that I'd use it is pretty slim. If the rest of the group wants to use it and as long as the explanation behind how the ability is acquired is somewhat reasonable (not just "It's Magic! Duh!"), I won't object to it. IC'ly, expect Draen to give people funny looks, though.
