I think (and I'm kinda excited about this) That in Tavnazia you have by fact no mog house, so we get to be camping together (YAY!!). As for the Nomad Moogles, I don't know how those will be treated.

Waiting for further instructions, but so far I love his this sounds. Hunting, stocking and camping together sounds great!!
To be an interesting, intriguing, well-written character, there needs to be something to allow the audience to relate to them. That is what the problem is with who wants their character to be "perfect". Perfect characters will never be strong, and strong characters will never be perfect, because WE (those who read, who watch, who RP) are not perfect.

I like the idea… to a point. As already pointed out, the only things that can be made 100% with items found in Tavnazia are roasted carp, roasted corn, and honeyed eggs. Which, between the three -could- get us through our time there, but really wouldn't be filling/would get boring -very- quickly.

I have some suggestions, but I'll wait to hear more before I start throwing them out.

When the hero enters to kill me, I will ask him to first explain to my grandchild why it is necessary to kill her beloved grandma. When the hero launches into an explanation of morality way over her head, that will be her cue to pull the lever and send him into the pit of crocodiles. After all, small children like crocodiles almost as much as Evil Overlords and it's important to spend quality time with the grandkids.

"How hard did you hit him?"
"Quite hard, actually. For some reason he irritated me." They stared back to where the Grolim lay.
"You're getting to be more like Belgarath every day," Silk told him. "You do more damage out of simple irritation than most men can do in a towering rage."

I guess with being stranded comes the boring/repetitive foods. Not like you get much choice when you wind up in an isolated place?

As long as the focus of the RPs does not turn to center around "zomg we need to find foodz nao!" and people play along this could work…

One concern I have is that people will get so wrapped around rules that these upcoming RPs will not be fun. We've been spending *a lot* of time arguing how things will work both outside of and during RP events. I am just hoping this will not add to that existing burden.

I have the impression some people are too focused on finding the missing details and restrictions in these scenarios to see what their actual purpose is…

I think this scenario gives us an actual opportunity to RP stuff that doesn't focus on missions (as several people have demanded in the past) and at the same time make the socials more interesting than just.. being there and chat.

I don't know about the others, but I have a lot of struggle to RP a social where all what is done is chatting. While part of the blame may be that I RP introvert characters, it's also because I like to have a line, something to follow, a plan. And this is why when I do socials I'm either RPing a quest and having an already planned social event going.

Scenarios are neither quests nor missions and they involve everyone, I think they give us a great chance to socialize and work together as a team.

And this is why I totally support this idea and it saddens me to see how such a beautiful idea (very similar to the 'occurrences' that would happen in a table RPG) is interpreted as a limitation or even almost as a punishment to restrict the group to do just one thing. Avina's description doesn't imply anything like that, or not in any way I've read it anyway.

First off, I'd like people to take a step back and breath in some fresh air. Remember that this is just a game and it is frankly not nearly worth the amount of tension that people are putting towards this. So please just take a step back and lets try to stay calm.

Addressing a couple concerns and bringing up some ideas that people have discussed with me to make things a little bit more clear.

Stockpiling: It's absolutely okay to stockpile resources from one RP to use for the next. You do not need to constantly farm every RP… it's fine to spend a day farming, gather up a bunch of supplies and be set for the next several RPs.

Additional Ingredients: Been getting a lot of questions about this. I was originally planning on make certain spices/etc required for recipes available to be purchased OOC for use IC. I may still do this for some. However, I was taking a look at some of the seeds that can be farmed off mobs and considered a form of gardening to get access to specific ingredients such as bay leaves and rice.

Kirious suggested to me that we have no MH but plenty of dirt, so what I thought might be a fair compromise would be…

1. Farm fruit seed or grain seed.
2. "Plant" it somewhere and target a specific kind of yield from the plant. You are free to select any kind of the seed's potential yields.
3. /random. /random will determine the amount of the drop you are able to obtain. 0-99, no yield, 100-199 1 yield, 200-299 2 yield, and so on and so forth.

How does this sound? This should open things up in terms of the variety of foods.

Tavnazian Safehold purchaseable foods: NPCs in the Tavnazian Safehold sell foods including meat jerky as well as the ingredients for black bread. You are more than welcome to use these items but spamming them day after day will ultimately lead to your character becoming malnourished… your character will be able to put off the hungry pains but will start to become weaker since you will be lacking any real balance in your diet.

I don't really know where people got the idea that I was trying to push people away from purchasing items from the NPCs… probably it was this line

Cut off from the mainland and food trade routes, with Beastmen prowling the fields, the Tavnazian Safehold has only the bare minimum of supplies for its dwellers.Avina

That was really only a background description and not anything to do with the rules themselves. Please don't confuse the two. But I don't consider having the only food options available from an NPC being meat jerky or the ingredients for black bread as being a sign that we're working with a particularly wealthy nation.

Crystals: Characters are really going to have to enter this with nearly no crystals. I may okay bringing in crystals that can desynthesize things but certainly nothing that can cook. Reason being: a stack of crystals is *plenty* enough to give your character next to no reason to farm crystals and again, there won't really need to be any managing of the resources. You'll end up crafting 12 meals for yourself and just chill until its gone which sorta dismantles the whole thing as its not much different from just entering the zone with a stack of food to begin with.

On another note. Kaolla has been established IC as

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BigEater

That being said any food she carries with her will probably be gone before the 1st RP is over. It also means Kaolla might need 2-10 times as much food as anyone else in the RP, making a rationing system very very painful for her IC. I’m looking forward to this even more now that I have remembered this. Just for the hilarity value of a hungry Kaolla.

This also explains why Kaolla is never without food, I think everyone has seen Kaolla randomly munching during RPs. But yes as much as Kaolla eats anything she can carry in with her will be gone before the 1st RP is over more than likely lol.

I think the reason some of us are kinda stuck on the rules is because, coupled with the "one meal per RP" expectation, there are several food options out there that are unusable because of the lack of available seasonings. A diet of only roasted carp and roasted corn would have the same effects of a diet of only meat jerky and black bread, and while I don't think any of us are expecting to have a five-star, six-course meal every night, some of use are seeing options that would be open realistically, but because of game mechanics are not possible.

Realistically, if I killed a sheep and got some meat I should be able to just stick it in a fire for a bit to cook it. Sure it'll be unseasoned, tough, and gamy, but in the face of malnutrition it's better than nothing. Game mechanics prevent me from that because I don't have marjoram and garlic to make it tasty.

Having that small supply OOC'ly of seasonings might help turn this from a Big Issue to it's proper place as a plot point, and I'm talking a -small- supply. Like, Avi holding onto one stack each of bay leaves, garlic, marjoram, sage, and black pepper, and that's all we get the entire trip, so it'd force us to OOC'ly ration them and therefore IC'ly we would only have these foods infrequently and they'd be very bland/basic.

If we get more seasonings and other ingredients through planting seeds/gardening, then great; we can start having good food IC'ly and more often. I like the idea of trying to grow stuff from seeds… and I'm kinda looking forward to someone IC'ly presenting a blue rock and worm soup to the group because that's all that they grew.

On a similar note… would we be allowed to "attempt" to make a food item, on a solely RP-basis out of what we can find out there? Like, if someone attempted to make adamantoise soup (which isn't very appetizing to start with, but does use meats found in Tavnazia) by substituting rye flour, trent bulbs, and whatever bones we can find for the actual ingredients? Whether or not the final product is palatable/edible/not fit for consumption can always be discussed.

I sorta addressed this point in my quote.

I'm sorry that I wasn't clear enough. I am not going to be telling people they can't cook something because they lack a minor spice. I'm really not as OCD as people seem to be thinking I am about this.

I posted this without the final rules laid out, days in advance before I was planning to implement it days in it so people could question, comment, brainstorm, give ideas, etc.

The goal of this is 100% not supposed to be as painful as me shooting you in the leg and telling you to run a 5k. That is not at all my aim with this. Of course you can keep some of the spices needed to craft on you OOC, and I will make a list of which spices are going to fit for that soon. Marjoram isn't available at all in Tav and will be on that list.

I think the question was… Could we RP making a food without actually using cooking synthesis?

For instance: Cooking a piece of sheep meat, carp, etc over a camp fire. Or making soup with whatever you find laying around.

This being instead of say…

Meat Jerky: Use the following items.
Ice Crystal, Giant Sheep Meat, Warjoram, Rock Salt
