Scenario #1: Famine

Summary: Upon arriving to the Tavnazian Safehold, the party discovers that they have a terrible lack of food supplies. Cut off from the mainland and food trade routes, with Beastmen prowling the fields, the Tavnazian Safehold has only the bare minimum of supplies for its dwellers. Because of this, the party must manage their own food shortage or risk malnourishment.

Goal: To provide a bit of a fun experiment with all the RP characters where they take up different roles in a sort of hunter/gatherer/food preparer role, and have the characters work together as part of their adventures in the Tavnazian Archipelago to manage a food shortage.

Duration: Until the adventurer party returns to the mainland.

Rules: Each RP character will be expected to consume one food item ICly per RP in order to stay in a healthy state. The food items you may use are only those that you can obtain in the Tavnazian Archipelago… you may not purchase food from the auction house.

Different foods will provide different levels of nourishment… simply consuming black bread every day will sooth the hunger pains but will ultimately lead to malnourishment. Meats including fish, by contrast, will be much more filling. Ignoring eating will not kill your character, however if you go a full RP without consuming anything your character may be told to pass out or faint during travels or physically exhausting fights. The DKP may be used as a means of keeping track of what people have eaten.

Food items must be obtained during RP sessions, so that the hunter/gatherer goal of this will be apparent in the RP. Certain characters are likely to be better hunters, and crafted food is going to have more beneficial effects to those who consume them. Crystals must also be obtained during RP session… in order to again make food seem more scarce.

Mithran characters may eat raw fish, and Galkan characters may eat raw meat.

More details to be added. Please vote above on your general feeling for this idea.

What's going to be the limitation on what we can bring with us? Are our inventories going to count to any extent? I'm not suggesting gearing up for this, but my character actually has a ton of food in his Mog Sack at this very moment. Since this is obviously a challenge, how much of that would we be allowed to keep?

Edit: To clarify it a bit more, I guess can we take a percentage of what we have on the character, or can I just keep my booze and candy people have seen him eating IC? (You can't live off candy) Or is this a "You forgot it today" and we're all starting at zip?

I have a similar situation. IC Kaolla has a fairly large stock of munchies (fish and pamamas) as well as a large supply of yagudo drinks. Kaolla also keeps a quite large supply of crystals and felwel on her at all times and has her own synergy furnace. I’m wondering the same thing in regards to how this will be viewed IC for something like this.

There will be a cap on how long your food supply coming into Tavnazia should last. I'm thinking between the range of 1-3 RPs or 1-2 RPs since we work with real time that tends to get somewhere between a week's worth of food. However long your food supply will last within that range will be up to you, but there will definitely be a cap. This will go for crystals as well.

The reason for this is because if people just find work-arounds and say they travel with months worth of food with them all the time, it will seriously undermine the goal of this scenario if people can just simply ignore it. Keep in mind how long we'll be stuck there, perhaps a month to a month and a half Earth time. That isn't really a ton of RPs for this to play out through, so in order for it to have at least some impact on our characters there really needs to be a limitation on just how long characters can dodge the system… I want it to be long enough so people don't have to start panicking about food immediately, but also not stall it forever so that in the end it just kind of get brushed aside.

Again this is meant to be character building material for us to work on and to make some interactions happen and realistically manage a section with low resources.

So we're all going to live off of Roast Carp since you can't farm any of the other materials for food in Tav regions?

You can buy Meat Jerky from NPC, and the materials for Black Bread. But with the description Tav can't supply us with those.

Please explain further how we will obtain the other ingredients.

The way I plan on handling this unless I’m told I have to change something is this.

Fish: Will last 1 maybe 2 RPs. Kaolla does however carry fishing gear with her so no trouble replenishing her stocks IC are foreseen.

Pamamas: Will last 2 maybe 3 RPs.

Yagudo Drinks: Due to the nature of alcohol will last indefinitely, but like most alcohol it has little to no nutritional value and will only make things worse in the case of malnutrition or dehydration. Yagudo Drinks are not like Guinness which has been called a meal in a bottle by many :3 (including me)

Crystals: Due to her mana obsession and her strange research Kaolla carries literally hundreds of crystals with her at all times in her gobbie bag. I will not buy crystals but if I have a crystal OOC I will consider it to be the case that Kaolla has it IC. Kaolla however caries mostly those crystals that are used in alchemy mostly water and lightning crystals, my supply of fire crystals is smaller yet still 2-4 stacks worth at the moment if I remember right.

Synergy Furnace: Again should not run out but I don’t know of any food that can be made by synergy so not really an issue.

Kaolla also caries mining harvesting and logging tools. I know I chopped an apple out of a tree once in one of the Tavnazia zones so these will come in handy. Reminder Kaolla has spent more time living outdoors than in mog houses over the past 4-5 years IC so she caries supplies out of habit. She did spend 2 years in the Horutoto Ruins living off whatever she could steal from goblins (she must have eaten a lot of onions lol no wonder she didn’t grow any.)

I've been working on making a list of foods that can be made almost entirely from the Tav region, and I'm currently up to about 10 recipes that can be made. 3-4 of which are a bit questionable, depending on how we handle random spices and such. That's something I'll wait for Avi to give more detail on.

As to being really prepared for an obscenely long camping trip…I'd like to put out my own perspective on this.

The group has been to and beaten two promyvions. All four times thus far, we've gone in, fooled around a bit, but been back home, (whether that be in town, or in a camp) by sun down, where (I assume) we have food, crystals, and everything that we need waiting for us there. Why would we have extreme amounts of food/crystals/whatever with us, when we're about to go home once we beat this next promivion? Why would this third promyvion be any different?

Sure, you can probably justify it anyway that you want IC. You can give them a sob story about how they were poisoned ten years ago in a restaurant. Now they only buy food that they've seen made. Therefore, they keep a large amount of food or crystals on them at all times for whenever they get hungry or are with friends.

Please guys, having some food on you is fine and completely understandable. But saying that you have a near-limitless amount of crystals, or alcohol, or meat is just ridiculous. How do you keep all of it, along with your armor and weapons in your bag? I'm pretty certain that this was just meant to be a fun thing, and a change of pace from what we usually do. I would absolutely love to see this succeed, since it's so different from our normal RPs. But if everyone just *happens* to have months worth of food or drinks or crystals, well…what's the point?

Avi, I applaud you for starting this. Thank you for trying to start something new! This should be a lot of fun if most people can get into the spirit of it.

I bolded the important part. I'd like to know HOW we obtain the items not in Tav area AT ALL. Also, as I pointed out before, Meat Jerky and ingredients for Black Bread ARE SOLD pre-chapter 4. How is that handled when it is described…

…the Tavnazian Safehold has only the bare minimum of supplies for its dwellers…Avina

Could a leader PLEASE explain this out further? I'd like a real answer and not something like "Just because we need too."

I agree that most of the characters have been home, but not all. (see below)

How do you keep all of it, along with your armor and weapons in your bag? I'm pretty certain that this was just meant to be a fun thing, and a change of pace from what we usually do.Saerun

1: I can keep it just fine with 80 bag spaces. lol. Also in RP I only use a few suits of armor (shrinks what I normally need)
2: It may be a change of pace, but I feel it needs to be reworked slightly to at least explain how we obtained these non Tav items.

BELOW
I know for a fact Nodem hasn't and usually carries Meat Jerky for long expeditions. (Note that he does not have an UNLIMITED SUPPLY and I'm in NO WAY saying he does.) Only logical reasoning for him doing this is because it has been done for ages and he is a sea born person.

The Spoiler section below only SLIGHTLY answers my second question as Tav still can provide you with Meat Jerky and Black Bread Igredients. How is that being handled?

Despachiaire: For the past twenty years we have survived on the belief that Altana will save us. It is that belief that has helped us to come together and rebuild our nation.

Despachiaire: However, we still struggle to provide for even ourselves. I am sorry we cannot offer you any more than a warm welcome.

Despachiaire: But please, feel free to utilize any of our facilities.

Saerun's post is pretty much exactly why I brought this up. I wanted to get something cemented before I brought in a bag of chocolate, a piece of goblin bread, and a couple Yag Drinks, then it turned out everyone else had a month's supply of food.

Edi: What about fruit seeds? Can we grow something in our MH and say we're growing it there?
