I thought I'd introduce myself as I am still waiting for a reply message.

Anyway, Hello, I'm Trevor. I'm new to playing Final Fantasy XI.

I haven't yet created my character but the game is done patching to the latest version. I would have created a character, but I wanted to see about recommendations, first. As it happens I was planning a Mithra to be a Dancer, but starting as a thief or something.

I have no real experience in MMO-Roleplaying specifically but I do have experience in normal Roleplaying.

Welcome! We're glad to have new people, and FFXI experience isn't required to RP^^ (you might want to do some lore research though, and history research if you want to RP a mature/know-it-all stereotype). Anyways read the rules section and see if there's anything you want to ask about :) I'm sure our leader will give you an interview soon!

Have fun!!
To be an interesting, intriguing, well-written character, there needs to be something to allow the audience to relate to them. That is what the problem is with who wants their character to be "perfect". Perfect characters will never be strong, and strong characters will never be perfect, because WE (those who read, who watch, who RP) are not perfect.

Thanks. Yeah, I already read through the rules, twice actually to make sure I didn't subconsciously skim through it.

I'll probably just play a character who is new to most things so I can avoid having to learn everything. :P I'll still go through some of the lore though.

Any suggestions for starting a character? At this rate I might just end up creating my character before I get bored. :P

First of all, welcome to the site!

It looks like the game is down at the moment, but here are a couple things that we don't have much of in the RP at the moment. Keep in mind, these are merely suggestions and not requirements. We believe its most important that you play a character that you enjoy.

1. Really really hurting on a lack of dudes in the group.
2. Also really missing on Tarutarus.

That all being said, once again, don't feel like you have to meet either of those categories. You would just get super cool brownie points.

The only thing I would suggest is taking a look at the Complete Character list in the "Characters" section of the forum, and trying to pick a unique face for your character, for whatever race you decide to choose. People just like having their character have a unique face in the RP, and although its sometimes impossible to ensure, we like to make an attempt to meet those goals.

I'll also say this about race selection: in this game, its not really a big deal. No matter what race you pick, you will be able to perform any job you will play as well, the only different between them is you would use different gear to make up their shortcomings. So yeah, don't worry about picking a race for their hardcore stats or anything… cus they really aren't hardcore lol.

Well, I could play a Tarutaru because I am curious to play as them. Unfortunately I always prefer playing as female characters. :S
If I were to start as a Tarutaru, I'd probably aim for Beastmaster or Puppetmaster. What would you recommend as a starting class though?

Warrior or White Mage would be good start classes, you will use both. Tarutarus actually make phenomenal Beastmasters due to all that natural high charisma. You will probably want to level both White Mage and Warrior for Beastmaster and/or Puppetmaster anyways as they are good subs for both those jobs.

a tarutaru! I would really love to see one, of any gender^^ and the picture of a taru BST or PUP is really awesome. for the starting class, I would recommend white mage for beastmaster subjob, and monk for puppetmaster's subjob. both of them like to sub dancer at the later levels, but it will not be avaiable at the start of the game.

Alright then, I believe I will pick White Mage, for the healing and usefulness, primarily to start out with and in Windurst for the ring.

And is there anything else I should know when creating a backstory, as I haven't been in this roleplay? I'm looking through the character biographies now.

Backstories can be however simple or complex as you would like them to be. Avina's background is pretty simple (the background you will read in her profile, is mostly from events that happened in the RP.

My keyboard to my Desktop decided to stop working. Therefor I'm going to be unable to play, unless I install the game onto my Laptop which I am unsure about as it is a "Laptop". It can however run the game, according to systemrequirementslab.com

Either way, its going to take some time to install it on here then get it updated.
