Daltan's story starts during the Crystal War. When Daltan was very young, he found himself with all the other children, sometimes being forced into bunkers if the city was being attacked, or just staying inside. His mother was killed one night during a beastman raid of San d'Oria, and it was this that started Daltan's idea that it was up to him, and him only, to protect his friends and families. Daltan snuck out of the bunker in the middle of the knight, took up a wooden sword and shield, and wished to avenge his mother. He did not get far, in East Ronfaure he witnessed a battle taking place between the Royal Guard and the Orcs, overwhelmed with fear, he hid behind a rock, unable to handle the screams and visions of the guard being torn apart by the Orcs. When the battle died down, a shadow appeared in front of him, An Orcish commander. It was then he realizes how truly weak he was, and gave into death. At that moment, his father, another member of the royal guard, attacked the Orc from behind, slaying him.
Daltan's father told him what he had done was foolish, and if he wanted to help in the war efforts, the best thing for him to do was to stay in the city and live on, in order to fight in future years. Daltan was escorted back to the city with a new goal in mind, and after that day, Daltan never allowed himself to lose control of his emotions. He secretly trained his swordsmanship with his father when battles were not being fought, and always had one goal in his mind. To become as brave and powerful as the royal guard, so that he could protect anyone, and if it came to a point that he was unable to, he would give up on being a paladin.
15 years later… Daltans current Age:25
Daltan joined the ranks of a trainee in the Order of Paladins. He trained and excelled at most of the leadership and training exercises, and quickly found himself advancing to finish his training as a paladin. By the age of 25, Daltan was a squad leader of the trainee's, and found himself getting closer and closer to becoming a full fledged paladin.
2 years after becoming a squad leader… Daltans current Age:27 Daltan and his squad were sent on a training exercise to the Valkurm Dunes. His group was to obtain and bring back a Crab Apron, A Damselfly Worm, and a Magicked Skull. While the training exercise was going well, Daltan quickly became overconfident that this would be just another simple task, and with that in mind, took his time obtaining the items. When only a Magicked Skull remained, Daltan realized he could only obtain such an item at night.. From the undead. It was far into the morning, and they were to return that evening with all the items. In a frenzy that he would fail the exercise, Daltan searched for another possible way to obtain the Skull. A Goblin, caught on to Daltan's problem, and directed to the Gusgen Mines, telling Daltan that is where he could obtain another Magicked Skull. Blinded by his need to obtain the skull and complete the exercise, Daltan and his squad went to the gusgen mines in order to obtain a Skull.
When Daltan's squad arrived in the Mines, The goblins trap was sprung. Daltan's companions were trapped by a spell, and the goblin threatened the lives of Daltan's companions if Daltan did not obtain a Magicked Skull. Daltan, with no choice but to play the game that the goblin laid out for him, ventured into the mines. It was not a task he was meant to do alone, hence why his entire squad of 9 others were sent with him, but for the lives of his comrades, Daltan could not just let it go. Daltan came accross the undead Ghouls he seeked, and fought with all his might to defeat them. Although badly injured at the end of it all, he managed to defeat the ghouls.
Returning to the entrance of the mines where his companions were being held, with a broken leg, a broken arm, and 4 broken ribs, he found himself face-to-face with the Goblin that had tricked him. He held out the Magicked Skull, not caring anymore about the exercise, just wanting to save his squad members, which included the love of his life. The goblin snatched the Magicked Skull out of Daltans hand, and after seeing that there was no way that Daltan would be able to beat him in a fight, snapped his fingers, and the magic cage that encased Daltans squad members flashing a bright light, and after the light cleared, Daltan could see that the Goblin had fried all of his squad members with a powerful fire spell, killing them all. The goblin casted another spell on Daltan, rendering him paralyzed. Slowly, Daltan fell into darkness.
Daltan awoke to faint whispers, but they slowly become louder and louder, he looked up and saw two Goblins standing above him talking. Suddenly remembering what had happened, he jumped up, sword drawn. He looked at one goblin holding his gil pouch, and another holding his shield, neither was the Goblin that had butchered his love and friends. Blinded by rage, Daltan killed both the goblins, and began to limp out of the mines, until… He saw his comrades. All 9 on the ground, and all 9 of them… Dead. Daltan lost control, and cried out screaming for hours on end, he became a paladin to protect people, and he wasn't even able to protect his own squad.
After Daltan had given his teammates a proper burial, Daltan limped out of the Gusgen Mines. It was mid-day, most likely hours after the incident, there was no chance of finding the Goblin now. Daltan limped all the way back to San d'Oria, where to everyones surprise, he resigned being a Paladin. Daltan recovered for a month after the incident, and no one saw or heard from him for the entire month. After he was fully recovered, Daltan slipped out in the middle of the night, set on leaving San d'Oria behind forever, he was now a failure there, and even though the San d'Orian guard wanted him to return as a paladin, he could not bring himself to.
He set off in the middle of the night, careful not to alert any guards of his departure. He had studied the ways of the Monk, and had planned to use those skills to help him survive for the next few years. At the gate, Daltan found his father, waiting for him. "You must go?" He asked Daltan. "Yes. There is nothing left for me here. . . I must find my own path. Father, please protect San d'Oria for me." Daltan responded as he walked past his father. As he walked away he heard his father whisper "You can protect people, you just need to be able to love again…"
6 Months later. . . Daltans current Age: 28
Daltan had drifted around the globe, training and furthering his skills in the way of the monk. He found himself seeking a place he could call home once more, and journeyed to Bastok, hoping he could find a new home to be accepted at. Upon entering the City, he found himself very tired, and turned to a young hume girl, named Avina, for directions to the Rent-a-Room. He thanked her for her kindness and began walking to where she had pointed out, noticing that every now and then, a certain Taru-Taru kept following him around. (Zetireti)
Daltan began more intense training as a monk, trying to further his skills more than he could as a paladin. Finding himself training in Dangruf Wadi, he saw Avina being chased by 3 Goblins. Out of pure instinct, Daltan sprung to help the young girl, and defeated the goblins using his power unleash, Hundred Fists. Exhausted and fatigued, Daltan and Avina talked for a short time, and he was introduced to the Taru-Taru that had been following him around, and that would soon become his best friend, Zetireti.
Daltan had wanted to remain by himself for the rest of his days, in order to not have to worry about friends, even to the point where he requested to bastok that he become a single unit, only doing missions by himself, with no allies. He soon found that this would not be able to happen because as Zetireti and Avina continued to spend time with him, and train with him, he found himself enjoying the company they had to offer. He was afraid to become a friend of theirs, but with the motivation they gave, he realized the thing his life had been missing.. Was companionship. Daltans goal in life is to be a 'guardian' of sorts to them, and is willing to give his life for friends. He is learning to trust people once more, and with that, is becoming as happy as he was in the past, once again. Could these allies become people he can rely on once more? Only time will tell.Daltan
