Summary:
In Bastok, Kirious walks into the house of a young woman and very calmly makes himself home at the kitchen table, and inquires how the girl is adjusting to her new home. It's Savannah; the daughter of Blanche, the Scorpio Corps member who had been working with Mays and had been killed by the insane Elvaan woman. To help keep the young woman safe from Mays, Kirious and Raka had funded Savannah's move from Jeuno to Bastok. Although adapting to her new living arraignments, she is still struggling to learn skills and tasks that, before the move, had been handled solely by servants. The visit over, Kirious starts to leave but it stopped in the street by Savannah, who then presents him with a curious headband made from blue material and leather.

Elsewhere in Bastok, Draenen and Mirror sit on the edge of a fountain, watching Aderyn play with some local children. The two siblings seem to have finally reconciled and are actually enjoying each-other's company; in a very odd way, they seem to even be moving in synch and mirroring each-other. Kirious catches sight of them and approaches, asking Draenen if she's ready to leave yet. She is, her pack already at her feet, and Kirious tells her to enjoy the last few moments with her family as hard as she can. This irritates Mirror, who quietly informs Kirious that, if he ends up attending another memorial service for a dead and lost sister, he'll make Kirious regret it. Sensing her brother's desire to finally lash out at Kirious, Draenen quickly stops the upcoming argument. Mirror decides to leave with Aderyn so that Kirious and Draenen can "get everything finalized", but before he goes, he removes the pendant from around his wrist and asks them which one would hold onto it. Kirious initially refused, not wanting to wear Mirror's jewelry, until Draenen identifies it as Malay's pendant.

Utilizing some convienient moogle magic, Kirious and Draenen arrive in Mhuara. The ship they had been working to fund has not arrived yet, so Draenen takes the opportunity to go and change her gear. She's directed to use Raka's room in the inn, and finds the one-eyed Mithra inside and slightly tipsy. After changing, she heads downstairs to sell off her old gear and handed over some letters to be delivered. Meanwhile, Kirious remains outside the inn and is approached by a heavily-armored figure… and it seems like the Boogyman is not very happy.

Meanwhile, in Kazahm…

Kenjii and Muriru awake in the bead and breakfast, ready to continue to Norg. However, Niiya is nowhere to be found and Kaolla is still sound asleep. After calculating the risks of trying to wake the Mithra up, Kenjii orders Muriru to do it and leaves the building. Coming to a similar conclusion on the risks, Muriru instead leaves a note [[or message? I didn't quite catch]] and joins Kenjii outside. Together they navigate the Jungle on foot, pausing in a cave while a heavy rainstorm passes through. They eventually arrive at Sea Serpent's Grotto and make their way through, and near the end of their journey through they find Niiya, who seems to be waiting for something. Both Kenjii and Muriru think the new Tarutaru is acting suspiciously, especially when the question on how Niiya knew about Norg's location goes unanswered.

Inside Norg, Kenjii leaves Muriru and Niiya at the entrance, telling them to stay put while he makes sure the two Tarutaru won't be hurt during their stay. Muriru finally gets an answer on how and why Niiya knew about Norg and was there, "anyone who's got an interest in Far Eastern arts eventually comes here", and the two chitchat lightly until Kenjii returns. Niiya then breaks off and heads to the Auction House while Kenjii heads for the nomad moogles and Muriru goes off exploring. As Kenjii deals with one of the nomad moogles, the new Tarutaru suddenly runs from the tunnel leading from the main part of the pirate's hideout and accidently runs face-first into the back of the Hume's legs, and bounces off of him. Before Kenjii can start yelling, the new Tarutaru jumps back up and starts running back the way she came, pausing only long enough to cast a Tonko spell. Moments after muttering about the waste of ninjitsu tools, Nyiia appears on the ledge above Kenjii, asking why he's muttering. Kenjii throws a rock at the Tarutaru, who very noticeably dodges it with a technique used by samurai. Kenjii admonishes Niiya about mixing samurai and ninja arts, to which Niiya seems confused about; the Tarutaru has never trained as a ninja. However, there is hesitation in the Tarutaru's response, and very quickly Niiya breaks off the conversation and returns to dealing with the Auction House. Kenjii then heads towards the main area of the pirate hideout, stopping on the porch looking out at the hideout and port below, contemplating his previous time spent there. At one point he turns to look behind him and spots the new Tarutaru, walking out from the pub with a tray of food and a drink.

Elsewhere in Norg, Muriru has managed to wander into an empty room, where she is attacked and subdued by a scythe-wielding Tarutaru. A moogle witnesses the attack, and in a panic flees the room and flattens the new Tarutaru and spills her food all over the porch. The moogle apologizes, then describes the situation where a Demon Tarutaru has attacked a younger Tarutaru. Kenjii takes off in the direction the moogle came from, while the new Tarutaru also starts running… in the opposite direction. Moments later, Kenjii arrives in the room and finds who he correctly guesses as Muriru's grandmother, Veviriri, standing over Muriru's unconscious form. Moments later, Niiya arrives as well.

Veviriri taunts Kenjii, citing his inability to protect people in the past, and goads him into attacking her. As Kenjii charges the insane Tarutaru, Niiya shouts something peculiar, and a moment later what appears to be an exact copy of Niiya appears from the shadows by Muriru and drops a handful of prism powder on the unconcious Tarutaru before casting Tonko on herself and disappearing. This disrupts Kenjii's charge and he turns and demands to know what Niiya is doing. This give Veviriri the chance the warp away as Kenjii advances on Niiya, accusing the new Tarutaru of working with Veviriri and trying to take Muriru away. Niiya tries to explain that nothing was going on and that it was just an attempt to get Muriru away from a dangerous situation, but Kenjii doesn't buy it until Niiya's copy drops the Tonko spell and brushes the prism powder off of Muriru, not even ten feet away from where the two of them had originally dissappeared. Kenjii drops Niiya to go and check on Muriru, who slowly starts to wake up. They then turn to look at Niiya, and realize that it's not some sort of ninja trick; they've been dealing with a pair of Tarutaru twins. Even their names are similar, Niiya and Nyiia, and as the twins start finishing each other's sentances, Kenjii orders one to leave before he loses his mind. Nyiia, the ninja, complies, and once she is out of sight Kenjii puts one of his katanas to Niiya's throat. Niiya tries to assure Kenjii that they were just trying to protect Muriru (as it WAS Kenjii and Avina that had 'enlisted' Nyiia to be a decoy for Muriru back in Jeuno), but Kenjii seems less than convinced, and he picks up Muriru and orders Niiya to start walking. As they pass the mess hall, Niiya stops and suggests that they stop to eat, as Muriru is looking pale and that Kenjii might be less irritable on a full stomach.

Inside the mess hall, they receive bowls of a rather unappetizing stew. Both Kenjii and Niiya begin to eat without hesitation, but Muriru can't seem to swallow more than half of the bowl's contents. As they eat, other pirates in the hall start harassing Kenjii, and finally he gets up from the table and starts a fist-fight with one of the pirates. Nyiia appears then, and the three Tarutaru watch on, confused by this behaviour. Washu, who runs the mess hall, assures them that this is quite normal, a way of saying 'welcome back', since neither Kenjii or the Elvaan he's fighting are using weapons. The fight finally ends when Kenjii delivers a low blow to the pirate and returns to the table to finish eating while Muriru and the twins chat. Muriru expresses her feeling of uselessness now that she's lost her magic, and Niiya tells her that she's only useless if she really and truly thinks she is, and that there are still options available for her. Tired from the day's events and the doubts plaguing her about her future, Muriru asks about someplace to sleep. Niiya starts to offer to help Muriru, but Nyiia takes charge, dragging Muriru off to a pile of sacks she had found earlier that seem to be full of either clothing or fabric by the Auction House. Niiya opts to follow Kenjii, receiving a sleeping bag like the Hume does, and settling down nearby. Kenjii tries to give responsibility for Muriru to Niiya, but Niiya quickly refuses; it's already a challenge to keep Nyiia on-task, and, besides, they're not sticking around long. Kenjii comments that Avina won't like that, and has a habit of hunting people down when they leave. Niiya asks if that is really true, but gets no response as Kenjii has already fallen asleep.

Meanwhile, back on the Mainlands…

Finally getting some news from Kenjii over the pearl, Saerun continues to pack and prepare to head to Norg. Part of her preparations lead her to meet back up with the unnamed Mithra she had encountered where, to her surprise, she receives a bow and is congratulated on becoming a ranger…

[[Holy crap, that was a lot longer than I thought it'd be O_o If I missed something/rememberd something incorrectly, please let me know. A lot was happening all at the same time, and I'm fairly sure I'm remembering Sae's incorrectly.]

When the hero enters to kill me, I will ask him to first explain to my grandchild why it is necessary to kill her beloved grandma. When the hero launches into an explanation of morality way over her head, that will be her cue to pull the lever and send him into the pit of crocodiles. After all, small children like crocodiles almost as much as Evil Overlords and it's important to spend quality time with the grandkids.

"How hard did you hit him?"
"Quite hard, actually. For some reason he irritated me." They stared back to where the Grolim lay.
"You're getting to be more like Belgarath every day," Silk told him. "You do more damage out of simple irritation than most men can do in a towering rage."
