I would suggest someplace like Mhaura for the home office. I have 2 reasons for this.

1: It provides us a location that makes sense in that it’s populated and has buildings. It is also still relatively uncrowned.

2: Ease of access especially if you take the time to lvl synergy so you can make http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Mhaura_Earring

Selbina and Rabao can work just as well though the Rabao earring is more difficult to make. We can always visit all three places either IC or OOC and see if they have any spots that would work as a home office.

Selbina and Mhuara would be worth looking into. Rabao is, in my opinion, just -too- far out of the way to really consider and I don't know if the atmosphere would make much sense.

I'd like to nominate one of the towers in Ronfaure; I know there's at least one that's unoccupied. They're all in close proximity to a city, so in my mind the location makes some sense.

If the "Home Office/Field Office" idea is used, I really think that the "Home Office" should be located somewhere where someone level 10-15 can reasonably get to. That way, we're not potentially leaving someone out who's new to the group and just hasn't had time to do much leveling.

When the hero launches into an explanation of morality way over her head, that will be her cue to pull the lever and send him into the pit of crocodiles. After all, small children like crocodiles almost as much as Evil Overlords and it's important to spend quality time with the grandkids.

"How hard did you hit him?"
"Quite hard, actually. For some reason he irritated me." They stared back to where the Grolim lay.

Another option is the Light House in Gusty near the Altepa? Maw. It's empty in there and pretty spacious. I don't so much like the smaller towns… but whatever ends up working.

I'm not the biggest fan of the idea of Field Offices for a couple reasons… while I think it would be a great idea if the shell was larger, I think with the current numbers of RPers we have in the shell at this time, fields offices would only serve to further divide our group. I think the benefit to having a single main office where we work out of is beneficial because that can be a starting point for RPers when they don't know where to start from… they can just go there, where other RPers will likely be waiting.

Basically, I think there is far too much time spent by people having to figure out a reason why they are in a certain place at a certain time. If we have only a single base of operations, then the RPers have only one option on where to 'hang' to meet the others. Breaking things up into field offices reintroduces that idea of having to justify why you are in a given area which I am wary of.

If we get larger, then a field office or two might be able to work well. I think for now though we should think in terms of making a single office, and see where that goes. I also think that naturally, given how the RP progression is expected to work, it would be wise to change the camp we're operating out of as needed to fit with the current storyline.

Just throwing this idea out here before if fades off my sleepy mind.

If a part of this company involves stories around NM hunting, a good thing to implement would be FFXI's Hunt Registry

It kind of could work as FFXII's "wanted board", or something like that. I "think" the registries include all the existing NMs (not counting VW or quests/mission related ones) so it would be at least a good list to know what's out there.

What do you think?
To be an interesting, intriguing, well-written character, there needs to be something to allow the audience to relate to them. That is what the problem is with who wants their character to be "perfect". Perfect characters will never be strong, and strong characters will never be perfect, because WE (those who read, who watch, who RP) are not perfect.

"What makes a strong character is how they deal with their flaws, their fears, their turmoils, their troubles that get in the way. That's what makes them relatable." – Doug Walker

So I mentioned this to Avi briefly, but decided to post this here as well.

What if, instead of creating this place so that we can have an office to work on quests/missions/etc, we started getting quests/missions *because* we keep hanging out in this place?

Let me give you an example:

We decide that with the events of CoP, we should really have an easy place to find each other - aka this place. By now, at least half the crew is pretty well known for helping the nations, so word would leak out pretty quickly that this place is the place where [Insert Character's Name Here] stays. Therefore, people might start coming to this place or sending requests for whatever we choose to do, so that our group might fulfill them. This way, we don't have to specifically focus on any one thing, but can do ideas that suit our fancy as we choose. One day, we could go hunt an NM, another we could go save a civilian from their brilliant idea to go into a beastman stronghold without a weapon, and another we could just chill in the homebase and chat about whatever we feel like.

It'd be very easy to make a list of ideas to do here on the forums, I've tossed a few out already, but I can normally always think of a few more. Then for the people who don't want to do NM hunts, we won't have to focus on NM hunts, and for the people who don't want to do random quests, we don't have to do random quests. And should we do random quests, they certainly don't have to be ones that already exist in the game. We can make up our own and be creative with it.

As for wherever this place might be, it'd be nice if it weren't terribly out of the way, and perhaps could be accessed via a teleport earring. These Earrings include: Windurst, San d'Oria, Bastok, Mhaura, Selbina, Jeuno, Kazham, Rabao, Norg, Tavnazia, WG and Nashmau. I'd be happy to help anyone make these earrings, even though my skill isn't terribly high yet.

Anyways, let me know what you think!

So yesterday I had Avina start to propose the idea of an adventuring company that would work as an agency and… the results weren't really what I was expecting and they don't seem to correlate with the OOC results of the poll that was listed above. It seems like people want to do something along the lines of what we've discussed here, however only Avina, Muriru, and Kaolla really supported the idea of having the organization do more than just have a common meeting place.

I just felt that I should give a little insight to Avina's character with regards to this. This isn't an idea she is particularly confident about and I want to make clear that if there isn't enough in-character support for this kind of adventuring company Avina will give up on the idea and it might not happen. ICly Avina doesn't actually want to push people into something that they'll end up dragging their feet to do. So if you are actually interested OOCly in the RP taking this direction, you may want to see if you can find a way for your character to come to support the idea. I was sorta told by a bunch of people that Avina should be the one to start it, but she isn't going to force it on her friends if they don't want to.

I want to reclarify too… Avina may talk in-characterly about things this group could do, but things she proposes isn't necessarily how the group will function. This kind of organization would be a big investment for all the characters, so ICly speaking everyone should have a say in how the group forms and what it does. Some things I'm going to have avina suggest are just going to be absurd since that's part of how her character works… I expect that others should jump in to offer more 'sane' opinions since I don't want something like this to rest entirely on my shoulders.

That all being said, this company isn't being proposed to make people spend tons of time camping NMs and generally doing things they want to do. If you don't want to camp NMs, you never have to camp NMs, and I don't see it even becoming a regular, organized activity of the RP. Just from time to time, and mostly for just pop NMs. As something to do. Pretty much what Sae suggested above was kinda what I was angling for last night and it wasn't picked up by people… so if you guys want this, you gotta help me a bit. If you guys don't want it we can just continue on as we have.

Arg, I wish I could've been there. IC'ly, Draen would've jumped on the idea as much as her new job will let her…

I like Sae’s idea of making a hangout spot first and forming the company later. We can make that work really easily. We start hanging out and then out of nowhere a moogle can show up with a letter saying “insert NPC name here” wants to talk to us about “insert topic here.” We can then go talk to the NPC and get the quest. OR If it’s something like a NM we can make up a NPC or have the letter be anonymous or just attach a random NPCs name to it etc. Letters not tied to a quest would have to be more detailed but that’s not really a problem. We can even make a thread on the webpage where people can post letters sent to the company/guild or whatever we want to call it.

As the requests keep coming it can spawn the idea of making our lil group a kinda official company/guild. I think this could work really well and will allow us to ease into the idea, having it just thrown out seemed to catch a lot of us by surprise IC. I might not be the best judge of that though because I had just found out I lost my job before that RP so I didn’t really have my head in the game. Just and idea though, I’ll let someone else expand on it now if they want to I have a bad habit of blabbing until I turn one of my potentially good ideas into an unnecessarily convoluted one.
