Kaolla Ronpotteh was born in Mhaura, the daughter of a Mithran fisherwoman. For the first twelve years of her life Kaolla lived happily with her mother and received the upbringing typical for a young Mithran girl. Kaolla’s mother taught her how to fish and how to hunt and Kaolla [like all Mithra] learned these skills easily.

Kaolla was also [like most Mithra] a very curious child. In the house where Kaolla grew up there was a locked room that she was forbidden to enter. But, like with all children, this forbidden room soon became an irresistible prize. In the forbidden room Kaolla’s mother had locked away the effects of her late cousin Bikho Ronpotteh.

Along with the musty clothes and tarnished trinkets Bikho’s effects contained several spell books. Once Kaolla learned where her mother hid the key to the locked room she began to study the spell books by candlelight in the middle of the night. Enthralled by the magic contained in her mother’s cousin’s books Kaolla began to spend more and more time studying the spells. It was not long before Kaolla’s lethargy during the day caused her mother to investigate.

When Kaolla was found late one night studying magic in the forbidden room her mother became very angry; not only because her daughter had disobeyed her, but also due to the great danger Kaolla was unknowingly putting herself into. During the ensuing fight Kaolla [now thirteen] threw one of those tantrums common among pubescent girls. In the middle of her screams and shrieks the room suddenly caught on fire.

Kaolla’s mother soon put the fire out but not before getting several mild [but still nasty looking] burns. The look of pure horror she gave her daughter; however, left Kaolla feeling angry, hurt, and more than a little scared of herself. Later that night after she had been sent to bed without supper Kaolla snuck into the forbidden room one last time. She took the spell books and a number of other effects and left home forever.

After making her way to Windurst the thirteen year old Kaolla got a job as a waitress in the Timbre Timbers Tavern. Once she had saved up enough money for tuition Kaolla enrolled in the magic school at Windurst.

Kaolla was a gifted but troubling student and after several incidents [including one where Kaolla set a boy Tarutaru’s hair on fire for pulling her tail] the magic school had no choice but to expel her. Hurt and angry Kaolla delved back into the books she had stolen from her mother.

Not long after her fifteenth birthday Kaolla decided it was time to try one of the more difficult spells in the largest of the spell books. The books was large and the black leather was decorated with darksteel and several gems including a polished stone made entirely of black magicite. Seeking privacy and a easy source of mana Kaolla dragged the book down into the Horutoto Ruins. What happened next is probably best not described, but it left Kaolla’s mind changed. For the past two years Kaolla [now seventeen] has wandered the Horutoto Ruins making her home there and only coming out at night.

The goblins who live in the Horutoto Ruins whisper among themselves about a terrible witch who babbles riddles and brings icy death. Most people dismiss these stories as nothing more than the common tales parents invent to keep their children from straying too far from home. But those who have visited the ruins late at night have said that they have heard laughter and a sound not unlike the shattering of glass coming from deep within the ruins.Kaolla

Considering all that has happened recently IC I’ve decided to do a semi in-depth examination of Kaolla as a character. This is something a little more than a timeline and something a little less than an actual char profile. I may at some point edit this into a full blown rework of my char profile or I might use it to base a character description on that I will post on the neko-sentai boards for a little on the side RP there that can serve as a kinda advertisement for our shell. If I do decide to do that it will take some time. For now though this is simply a study of the character which is open to discussion should anyone believe there are more details they would like explained or if someone thinks there is a problem with the character.

Okay now for the info:

To start Kaolla Ronpotteh was born some 2-3 years after the end of the crystal war. Kaolla’s mother was a fisherwoman, it is interesting to note that her cousin Behko Ronpotteh also spent her early years fishing. I imagine that the entire Ronpotteh “clan” was involved with fishing or selling fish. I actually imagine that Kaolla’s mother and Behko Ronpotteh are distant cousins with one of the links in the family tree being a male relative (which in mithran eyes would further distance the relation.) The exact details are unimportant and probably would remain unknown IC. The only key point is that Kaolla somehow inherited the rare trait (at least if you go by mithra NPCs) of being a mithra predisposed to being a BLM. Also several “artifacts” that are believed to have belonged to Behko Ronpotteh were being kept hidden by Kaolla’s mother. This of course IC will be supported by nothing more than conjecture and assumption. The only real facts here are that Kaolla shares the clan name Ronpotteh and that Kaolla’s mother kept hidden several items that would only be of interest to someone wanting to become a BLM.

Kaolla was born and raised in Mhaura. She would spend the first 13 years of her life in Mhaura learning mostly how to fish. Though at the time Kaolla found the task of fishing thankless and boring it will remain one of her favorite pastimes. While fishing is one of the few times when Kaolla will “be herself” to be more precise while fishing her emotional barriers and walls are relaxed and she will not intentionally be cryptic or snide or abrasive or any of the other traits that make her “scary.” They will still come out a lil since they are part of her but she won’t be “putting on a show of confidence and superiority.”

As is mentioned in my original profile sometime when Kaolla is 13 she discovers her mother’s secret stash of magic books and paraphernalia. Kaolla gets into a confrontation with her mother about learning magic and loses control causing her to severely burn her mother and destroy a good part of their house. The burns of course look worse than they actually are but the look of fear in her mother’s eyes causes Kaolla to run away to Windurst after stealing her mothers hidden stash of BLM stuff including a grimoire that will prove important later on.

When Kaolla gets to Windurst she gets a job at the Timbre Timbers tavern as a waitress in order to pay to go to the magic school. She spends the next year working there and doing odd jobs for Nanaa Mihgo then she enrolls in the magic school. Nanaa Mihgo probably doesn’t think much of or even remember Kaolla since she has whole armies of adventurer minions. But this is an important lil detail because Nanaa Mihgo’s personality did influence the young Kaolla making her more “world-wise” than most girls her age. (13-14 at the time.)

Kaolla’s time at the magic school didn’t last long. During one of her classes a taru boy pulled her tail and Kaolla responded by setting his hair on fire. This of course got Kaolla expelled. This is a turning point in Kaolla’s life making her a very angry and bitter young girl who is convinced that the world is out to get her. This also cements a few of Kaolla’s personality traits. It is not long after this event that Kaolla could often be heard saying that she “HATES BOYS.” This should not be interpreted as an event that turned Kaolla into a lesbian since she was always one (though such revelations always involve a lot of soul searching among other things…)

After her expulsion Kaolla dived into the books she stole from her mother continuing her studies on her own. In the grimoire which is basically a “magic diary / notebook” Kaolla found information on many types of magic, magical and non-magical creatures, crystals of all sorts including several theories on the mother crystals and protocrystals, and spells, theories, glossaries, indexes, and papers concerning a vast array of topics from the practical to the purely theoretical to vaguely worded mentions of obscure knowledge that might be little more than hearsay. Whoever had owned/written/edited the Grimoire Kaolla now possessed had used it extensively collecting knowledge from the profound to the profane. Speculation and circumstantial evidence points to the fact that this is indeed the Grimoire of Behko Ronpotteh one of the infamous Dark Lilies, but no concrete evidence exists. Whoever wrote the tome it was while reading it that Kaolla became obsessed with the Full Moon Fountain. Convinced that her life was falling apart (she is a young teenage girl and we all know how silly teenagers can be about such things) the now 15 year old Kaolla decided to brave the Toraimarai Canal in order to peer into the Full Moon Fountain and hopefully obtain some glimpse of the future so she could know what to do with her life.

When Kaolla did finally manage to Get to the Full Moon Fountain she was confronted by the “Bearer of Darkness” the twisted being made up of shards of the souls of Karaha Baruha, Fenrir, and the cardian Joker. What happened next is difficult to describe. Instead of being shown a guiding vision of the future Kaolla is bombarded by visions of the past. The fall of the Zilart, the destruction of Tu’Lia and Al’Taieu, the degeneration or de-evolution of the Kuluu into the Tonberries, and several other violent and unpleasant things. To make a long story short Kaolla was mind raped by an Eldritch Abomination. See the following links for more info.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MindRape

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EldritchAbomination

It is at this point that Kaolla stops visibly aging. Whether this is a side-effect of the mind rape or just one of those quirky things that happen (Mithra age well as is juse look at Perih Vashai) is unclear. Kaolla will spend the next 2 years haunting the Horutoto Ruins venting her rage at her violation and slowly loosing her mind and blocking out her memories both her own memories and the memories that were forced upon her.

Note: Since the Bearer of Darkness is “male” or at elast made up of the remnants of souls that belonged to male characters (Karaha Baruha is male and I always saw Fenrir as a male avatar, though with some avatars it is somewhat vague) Kaolla has a deep-seated subconscious mistrust of men. While Kaolla puts on a strong front she will eventually have to come face to face with the fact that she is a rape victim. If anyone in our group decides to lvl SMN IC some interesting things should happen if Fenrir is ever summoned… Or when we com into contact with the Bearer of Darkness in the Windy Missions.

The rest of Kaolla’s story is well known in the RP group. She is found in the Horutoto Ruins and lured out with fish. Later when exposed to Magicite he “memories” are re-awakened but her mind is still clouded and her memories are inexact. She has however lost her apparent innocence and regained the persona of a world-wise, cynical, dark, mysterious, witch overly impressed with what she sees as her own cleverness.

So there it is Kaolla in a nutshell a very large nutshell perhaps a coconut shell :3 Again this document is a discussion of the character not a character description since it is too rambling to be a good char profile. But I thought that it would be good to write it all out. I would suggest other people write out some stuff like this about their own characters too so we can all talk about our chars as we approach some fairly major events IC what with the shadow lord fight looming on the horizon. This can also let anyone who might be interested in joining the LS a bit of a taste as to what each of us is all about and in turn what RP is like with us.Kaolla

I have often compared Kaolla to Lina Inverse from Slayers. Because no one in the LS besides me has watched this anime or read the light novels I decided to post some of my favorite youtube clips of Lina.

This one is a AMV but you can SO see the different expressions Lina has and I’m surprised myself how many of them work for Kaolla especially near the end when Lina freaks out and cries.

Just on a fun note IC Kaolla really does look a lot like Lina Inverse that is if Lina Inverse looked like Mithra 6-A. Basicly take Lina Inverse but give her a tail mithra cat-ears and 6-A’s face markings and white hair. Just incase anyone here wants to do some art for the LS :3Kaolla

Posting some vids of Xellos too, he’s another Slayers character and the one I stole the line “It’s a secret” from. He also warps in and out of the story at random which is another trait of Kaolla’s lol so between him and Lina you got two parts of Kaolla’s personality.
